Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
TLB: We are The Last Bastion, a heavy metal band that is inspired by the greats while carving our own path.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
TLB: We are based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. We all met through the music, Rob & Kev in 2022 as the founders of Bastion and Akos was a later addition in 2024.
Kev – Rhythm Guitar and Lead Vocals
Rob – Lead Guitar
Akos – Drums
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
TLB: Each of us have a varied range of influences from many differing genres:
Kev: Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Motörhead and so many more…
Rob: Queen, Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Motörhead, Gary Moore, Eddie Van Halen
Akos: Jojo Mayor was my major influence, All things Death Metal
Our song ideas come from everyday inspirations, personal experiences or feelings, movies, gaming and many more! Sometimes I will have a melody and lyrical idea that I write the music around. Other times I have the riffs that turn into an instrumental and build around the feel to find the lyrics that will fit. – Kev
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
TLB: Our aspirations as a band are to make great music and play to as many people as we can. Hopefully, connecting in one form or another with the community.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
TLB: The overwhelming interest in our Debut Album ‘Who We Are’, the reception of this release was great and made us feel like what we were doing naturally was what the community wanted.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new
artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
TLB: It’s not without its challenges, we are doing our best to try and cut through, as you’ve said it not an easy task in the current climate. We just hope that our music cuts through the noise.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
TLB: We have recently joined forces with Eden Music to help with the sourcing and booking of shows. We have the following dates already lined up for 2026:
Feb 12th – Trillians, Newcastle
Feb 13th – Tap n Tumbler, Nottingham
Feb 14th – The Metal Monocle, Leister
May 2nd – The Sub, Blackpool
Jun 4/5th – Mountains of Metal Festival, Sheffield
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
TLB: Downloading and streaming services are a great way of getting your music to the masses but on the other hand it’s killing the music industry, as it is devaluing music and over saturating the market.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
TLB: None, any song we wish we had written has been an influence for us.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
TLB: Creating music using AI, it’s hard enough as a musician to get your art out there but when an already oversaturated market is now being infiltrated with computer generated content, it’s going to turn an already uphill battle into an impossible climb for us artists.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
TLB: We are working on our next album, we are in the studio every week writing and
composing together, while we are trying to gig as much as possible.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
