Following The Ragged Edge, “a work of genius” (Fatea) that “fused together the brilliant complexities of folk with the wondrous harmonies of vintage pop.” (Aldora Britain Records), TangleJack have released a new EP of Americana influenced material in November 2025.
The Ballad of Harold Camping EP is an opportunity for John-Paul and Duncan to cut loose on a collection of lighter songs that deliberately contrast with the weightier material of their last album. Inspired by 21st Century Bob Dylan and the country rock of 1970s The Rolling Stones, these four new songs are full of lyrical wit and guitar ingenuity.
Opener Needs Must When the Devil Drives features Dylanesque elliptical lyrics, decorated by Sun Studio guitar riffs, and some solo shredding from Duncan.
On Cat Man Do Duncan treats us to some tasteful slide guitar, while John-Paul has fun describing a feline love affair.
The Ballad of Harold Camping is a satirical swipe at the real-life eponymous character’s prophetic claims – powered by a declamatory vocal of pure irony.
Closer Bad Weather Baby gives Duncan a chance to rip out some trad jazz guitar lines around John-Paul’s rollicking vocal about finding a keeper.
“We’ve had such fun working on these tunes. Each song has its own character, which we think we’ve captured through altering our approach on each recording. They’re all a little tongue in cheek, but by challenging ourselves to create the right sound for each song we’ve really pushed ourselves as performers.”

After three decades of making music together, John-Paul Davies and Duncan Leigh have perfected their unique, acoustic, double-duet sound. Through tight two-part harmonising and intricate, interweaving guitar lines TangleJack conjure an extraordinary four part texture. Sharing a history that began some 30 years ago, as the arty outsiders in the brass bands of the South Wales valleys, John-Paul and Duncan formed a friendship that outlasted their teenage rock band years, as well as the jazz and classical meanderings of their studies, to return to their folk rock roots as musicians well-travelled.
