PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
SOG: It’s hard to describe as we don’t like to restrict ourselves to a particular sound/genre. I’m sure a lot of bands say that but our existing catalogue and what is yet to come beyond the album re-enforces that statement. We like to stay ambitious to not become bored with producing nothing but the same sound.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
SOG: Lewis and The Grub Man co-wrote an album’s worth of material together approximately 5+ years ago. When the album was written and recorded, a full band was assembled so that the material could enter the world of live music. These new members consist of Alex Lewis & Evan Cook (guitars) Zac Cross (bass) and Aled Trigg (vocals).
Some of us attended the same school together/college and have been on and off making music for 10+ years, while others reached out to be recruited. Overall, we are from the same county in South Wales.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
SOG: We don’t like to state our musical influences directly; we leave that up to the listener to pick things out for themselves. What inspires us is a sense of purpose, that we were born to create music that we want to hear. Spending hours on a song and hearing it come together as ideas come flooding out naturally is incredibly rewarding and fun!
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
SOG: Starting off, we’ll carve our way through the metal scene of South Wales, networking and establishing friendships with as many great bands and individuals as possible and take it all the way to the end from there. What does the end look like? We don’t know but we will never stop until we know we did everything in our power to achieve it.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
SOG: Seeing people that we have never met go crazy and vibe with the music we created. It’s the most rewarding feeling for us, knowing that these ideas have the power to make people feel something and have a good time. It just goes to show that we’re doing something right. Also having an album to our name is great too haha! Alex – “Our debut gig is a personal highlight. The turnout was the best the venue (Jacs) had ever seen for an original metal band and everyone loved it! Finally getting the chance to expose S1G to people was cathartic.”
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
SOG: Yes, it is very hard but all we can do is surrender to the grind of it all. We do this by making as many connections as we can both in the real world by attending local shows and via social media. It’s easier to create something these days but very hard to maintain and grow it independently. However, it’s all part of the journey and we enjoy doing it. Gives us a purpose.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
SOG: We have a handful of shows coming up in 2026! We will be returning to the venue where we performed live for the first time, Jacs in Aberdare, for an album launch headlining show. Also returning to Fuel to open for Elkapath in July and others that we cannot disclose at the time of writing this. So far, we have had the honour of performing with some of the best bands on the Grassroots scene and others that are gaining more success by the day!
e book shows by simply reaching out to venues and bands ourselves while using social media strategies to promote the events as best we can. One of the best pieces of advice that new bands can take, is to go to events to meet people to establish connections.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
SOG: Whether people like it or not, streaming is ultimately the way forward for all forms of media, not just music. Of course, we all like to purchase music physically but to rely 100% on that approach isn’t sustainable. However, we are open to being graciously proved wrong on that statement. There are pros and cons no matter what but that would require a significant tangent haha!
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
SOG: The Grub Man – “Money for Nothing by Dire Straits. Best riff ever!” Lewis – “Happy Song by Bring Me The Horizon. I can’t explain why without going on a tangent but for me, it does everything perfectly for a song like that.”
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
SOG: Bands, especially those who have made a name for themselves, deserve more revenue for them to sustain their passion for not just themselves, but the fans. That might sound greedy but if people are in the music game for the money, they might as well take up MMA to play chess with their opponents mid-fight. It doesn’t work that way haha.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
SOG: We are currently focusing on the singles for the album and planning the next year while reflecting on this one. What can we do better? Is there a way to work and write more effectively? Who can we reach out to in England to network and perform with? 
These questions and more are on our agenda, as we are taking the month of December off to contemplate everything. Nonetheless, it’s very exciting!
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
SOG: We currently do not have an online store per say where we sell merch. As it stands, the only method of purchasing merch will be to attend our shows and speak to Gump, our merch guy. On the topic of that, shout out to Gump! That man has supported and helped us like you would not believe!
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
SOG: You can find our music on all streaming services and if you would like to purchase it, it is available on Amazon! You will be spoiled with our album “One” which will be released on 27/02/2026 on all sites! We do not have anything physical to sell right now, but it is very likely that we will have some CD’s available for the album!
