Interview with Jason David (I Am Untitled) and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
JD: Singer/songwriter combining elements of pop, hip hop and r&b
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc. What is the band’s lineup?
JD: I lost 80% of my tongue to stage 4 cancer and was told I’d never sing again. Now I’m back and writing songs that I hope bring hope and healing to others who are trying to overcome life’s many obstacles.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
JD: I grew up heavily influenced by OneRepublic, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. Because of what I’ve survived, I try to write songs that uplift, encourage and inspire.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
JD: As long as I’m making music that connects with someone, I feel like I’ve “made it.”
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
JD: Selling our home and everything we had in San Diego and hitting the road full time. We have now been on tour for 20 months straight, living rv life and tour life.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new
artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
JD: Somehow our music has connected with enough people that we can tour full time. Very grateful, but it’s a lot of work. It’s work that is worth it.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
JD: Most our booking come through social media as people watch our videos. We are booked a year out with shows weekly which is why we live full time on the road.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
JD: All of these new tools have devalued music, but have also leveled the playing field and brought exposure to deserving artists who never would have seen the light of day.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
JD: Fix You by Coldplay, the way it connected with an entire generation, love’m or
hate’m, that song has moved millions of people to tears and hope.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
JD: How much time do you have? lol
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
JD: While on tour we are wrapping up our next album titled NO TURNING BACK which will premiere in January!
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online, have you any Social Media links that you can share?
JD: https://hello.jasondavidmusic.com/music
