PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
CM: We’re a nu-metalcore band based in Bristol UK.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
CM: Lewis, myself, and Dylan attended Helston Community College together in Cornwall, and in 2014 myself and Dylan drafted Lewis into our first project together, Black Leaves of Envy. I met Sam at university and have played in a band with him before, but this is our first serious attempt at making music together.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
CM: Corey Taylor was my original vocal obsession, but recently Marc Zelli of Paleface Swiss, Daniel McWhorter of Gideon and Alan Seapa (AKA MC Grindah) have redefined the way I look at writing vocal rhythms. Instrumentally however I’m all over the shop – from Sentinels’ Epitaph album to Marty O’Donnel’s Halo soundtrack. My lyrical subject matter are almost always about my family and lived experiences.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
CM: We hope to continue developing our strong UK fanbase and beyond! If we can survive on music, we’ll be happy.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
CM: Our latest single, ‘Beneath The Hydrogen’ being released has certainly been one of them. The response it’s had is fantastic! My first outing as a producer receiving national acclaim was hugely gratifying.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
CM: We’ve trusted Garry from SaN PR with that task for this release and the results speak for themselves. We’ve tried DIY promotion, but we think 3rd party support is the way to go!
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
CM: We book all our own shows at the moment – we’ve got shows in Reading, Bristol, Plymouth and Cornwall coming up! Head to cobermouth.uk/live for the full up to date list!

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
CM: Double edged sword – more people can listen to more music than ever before at some of the lowest prices in the history of recorded music. But as a musician, the worth of your product has been diluted. Solution? Diversify your business model – not very rock and roll, but who wants to be broke?
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
CM: White Christmas – I’d be raking it in by now.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
CM: Ban venues from taking cuts on band merch sales.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
CM: We’ve got a couple of new ideas for what we want to release next, so we’re now on the difficult decision of which ones get to come out of the vault…
