Yur Mum – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

YM: The kind that has two jobs. One to pay for the other.

PD: Tell us a brief history of yourself.

YM: We come from Brazil. We’re partners in life and music is one of the things that brought us together.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

YM: Lately we’ve been listening to artists like Zé Ramalho, Elis Regina, Raimundos, Helmet, TruckFighters but mostly to the bands that we discovered on the road. To make this answer simpler we have created a playlist with our favourite bands out there and from around the world, please check it out: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6XAvaIxeZfUqqZ9hdfG5Qz?si=b_2VbstsRT6w43j5K1mPxw

Apart from music I have a lifelong passion for theatre and Fabio’s is illustration and graphic design.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

YM: Our biggest dream is to live off our art like every other artist out there. We’d love to be able to dedicate full time to managing the band, experimenting with new ideas and playing live gigs FOREVER.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

YM: We write them together. The lyrics are based on things we’ve experienced or felt at some point in life.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

YM: We usually design our posters, make our own videos and manage our social platforms.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

YM: We think it’s still controversial. Art in general is vital to everyone but in reality the value is subjective. Nobody really needs to buy music but we appreciate the ones who do because they know they’re supporting an artist they like.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

YM: Any of those Christmas number ones (LOL) That way we wouldn’t be worrying about surviving and could just do art full time.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

YM: Anelise talks too much. Fabio is a bad listener.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

YM: Fortunately we got quite a few. We come from Brazil and we never thought we’d be touring in Europe and in America, but recently we had the chance to support New Model Army on some of their shows and the adrenaline of playing in front of hundreds of people gave us a sense of achievement.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

YM: We still haven’t released any recorded music as a duo and we can’t wait to finally release our new sound.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

YM: The reason we make music is to play live. We give everything we got wether we’re playing in the Electric Ballroom or in a pub to the bar staff. We bring a lot of passion and an interesting blend of sounds because we go from heavy rock back to our Brazilian influences.
