Viserion – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

V: We are a Black Metal band from NY. We take inspiration from bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone and Behemoth and interpret the foundations they laid in our own unique way.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

V: We formed in 2019 after guitarist John Magnani saw Ben and Matt Marvilli’s other band Moniasin play a show. John and Ben got to talking about their mutual love of black metal and decided to form Viserion together along with Matt.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

V: Mayhem, Darkthrone, Behemoth and some more modern acts such as Deadspace, Woe, and Ellende to name a few. Non musical we are influenced by the atmospheres that a lot of the classic horror movies convey. Such as The Exorcist, The Omen, and The Thing.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

V: Our dream is to have the listener hear a song of ours and know right away that that is a Viserion song. For our goals we would like to first start by touring America and then make our way overseas.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

V: We all write our songs together whether it be John or Ben showing some guitar parts to the other and then structuring and building a song around it with Matt. The lyrics and vocals then come last. Our songs are mostly about the suffering we all face in life with a few songs almost being stories themselves.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

V: We stay active and engage with our fans on social media. We also enjoy going to local shows and meeting other NY bands and the community we have here.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

V: Having our music heard is the goal at the end of the day.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

V: This is a tough question. For me personally “The Funeral Portrait” by Opeth would have to be the one I wish id written most

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

V: We feel very strongly about people breaking their word in general. This would have to be our top pet peeve.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

V: Having our track “Rotting Within” included on one of Trevor Strnad’s The Obituarist playlist that he does over at Metal Injection

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

V: Right now we are working on promoting our debut album “Natural Selection” which is set to release on 8/13/2021. We have some cool content for it that we will be releasing along the way!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from

V: We have our Demo “Death Dealer” and the Pre-order is available for “Natural Selection”. You can get both over at: https://viserion.bandcamp.com/
