Big Riffs, Huge Melodies and Save drums. The Survival Code are a rock duo from London best known for their 2019 track “So Serious” which has seen it get over 1.6m streams since release and the band 20k listeners a month on Spotify alone.
2023 is a huge year for the band seeing them release 12 singles in 12 months from their latest album. Already on to single 7, the lads continue to bring their energy, animations, live vids, behind the scenes vids and more
The Survival Code was founded by Gary McGuiness in London in 2011 and had a variety of line ups and sounds before they found their sound on their 2018 release “Hopelessness of People” which was produced by their existing producer Matt Hyde.
This was the album that saw the band become a duo and this and the subsequent release “Crosses to Carry, Coffins to Fill” have gone on to define the band’s sound and energy. Especially the lead single from the latter “So Serious” which has seen 1.3m streams on Spotify and 2m across all platforms.
The growth on socials and platforms since have seen the lads’ numbers grow to over 18k listens a month on Spotify for the last three years, 10k new Facebook likes and more across other platforms so this new release is seen as a great chance to connect with a larger audience versus previous offerings.
This is the band’s first release since covid and an album with 12 songs in 12 months, supported by acoustic versions and live versions of the song on set dates in advance is seen as a great way of engaging.
The guys also have a whole separate social strategy to focus on the instruments and parts to help highlight their’ complexity and further telling the story. During the process the guys have taken on the challenge of making the videos and over 100 drawings have been made to reflect the lyrics and many are becoming animations on the videos to help to tell the stories. There is a lot to come in 2023!
Gary has been the frontman/songwriter since the band inception. Formally a drummer he stepped out from behind the kit when moving to London and that background has always lent itself to a very rhythmic style of writing and playing.
Simon joined the band in 2018 for the release of the “Hopelessness of People” album. He was in a band known as “The Barbs” that had early success in the late nineties, included touring in Asia, playing Download and supporting “The Darkness” on their ascent among many others. Simon brings a great style and energy to the band and has been an amazing live drummer since joining.
