The Red Stains – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
TRS: The Red Stains are a contemporary post punk band. We are a starving artist, missing gigging and being out there on the music scene.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
TRS: We started out in Manchester in April 2019 and have been causing chaos and writing our name across toilet doors ever since. We played our first gig on 7th of July 2019 and have been playing live a lot in Manchester, but also the odd gig out of town. Tim Burgess invited us to play Kendal Calling in autumn last year. We released our first single, Mannequin, only at the end of April so go and check it out.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
TRS: Musical influences are anything that has maximum volume and something we can dance to and let loose. Lyrically, everyday life is a big inspiration for us, trips to supermarkets, sitting on the bus, that kind of thing.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
TRS: Short-term: get back gigging; mid-term: record and release an EP, collaborate with other musicians; long-term: be the influence of a generation to make more music themselves.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
TRS: We all write our songs, different band members contribute different bits to it. A lot of the songs are about misery on public transport and whatever else we observe. Mannequin is about the objectification of women.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
TRS: We hide boring content through disgusting photos of food (social media).
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
TRS: Downloading music and streaming are great as they make music readily and easily available. It would be a lot better though if musicians were paid fairer by the streaming services.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
TRS: Oh, it would have to be Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush because we’d love the honour of Alan Partridge doing a cover version.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
TRS: Creeps, Metties, and people who act like they are doing a public service by sharing Guardian articles on Facebook.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
TRS: The invitation to play Tim Peaks at Kendal Calling and the saddest moment was when Covid 19 started to set in and all gigs were cancelled.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
TRS: We are preparing for our next release and are writing and rehearsing new songs.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
TRS:Our debut single Mannequin is available on all streaming services. On Bandcamp, you can also buy a CD and some merch of it. There are also more live recordings on Soundcloud so you can check out what you’re missing right now.
