The Palpitations
“Denial”
15th April 2022

Out 15th April, “Denial” is the new release from London-based alt-rockers The Palpitations. Having released their debut EP “Feed The Poor! Eat The Rich!” during the first lockdown in 2020, the four-piece (Tom Talbot on vocals, Brett Rieser on guitar, Nishant Joshi on bass, Florin Pascu on drums) have spent the last year recording more singles that not only reflect the past two years, but also aim to look forward as they tease at different genres of rock. Notably, “Feed The Poor!” garnered critical acclaim, including a prestigious feature from Atwood Magazine. Individual songs also garnered regular play across BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing.

“We’ve all been dealing with heavy emotions recently, and ‘Denial’ explores how our brains compartmentalize grief, pain and suffering,” Rieser stated of the track. “Despite our best efforts, these emotions resurface in startling and unpredictable ways.”

“Denial” is a track with crossover appeal, veering from melodic grunge to their trademark soaring, danceable hooks. The band first came to prominence in 2020 – with Talbot and Joshi working as frontline doctors, both were instrumental in protecting NHS staff with upgraded PPE, and they took part in protests that gained international attention. Joshi later took the government to court over their PPE failures, winning a landmark case in quick time. “I was working 12-hour days in hospital, then coming home and organizing a legal challenge, and then writing songs until 6am. Sometimes, I even managed to sleep for three hours in a row,” says Joshi.

“Denial” marks a triumphant return for a band who have helped to change. Forthcoming singles include the riff-heavy “Death To Light” and melodic, Radiohead-inspired “Shadow Of Your Sun”.
