(The) Medicine Theory
Formed in 2007 after a decade and a half of other collaborations, guitarist Jeff Irvine and drummer Tyson Schroeder sought to return to their origins and write songs for the sake of creating. No agenda, no politics, just creating. They quickly found their niche by combining their shared influences and a “anything goes” motto and released their debut e.p. “…with dead certainty, even in the midst of chaos”. A lo-fi offering that swirled with noises, samples, raw guitars and attacking drums. The ensuing shows garnered comparisons to Big Black and Shellac.
After a stint as a three piece that was well received live, but was creatively frustrating, they returned to a two piece format and in 2013 released two more collections. The quiet-ish e.p. “What the fuck you looking at?”, which features more of their constructed (self made drum loops, cut-up, paste-up) songs, and the heavier, raw attack “VERSIFICATOR”. These were soon followed (spring 2014) by a collection of live songs taken from performances over the previous six years and featured a collaboration with Austin based cellist Barbara Andrea Arriaga (Reverend Glasseye, And The Furies Say).
This collaboration brought about the recording “Like an Old Man” featuring Barbara and emphasizing a darker, more organic approach that brings to mind The Swans and early Wovenhand.
Back as a duo, the band will be releasing a new EP in the Spring of 2017 and currently writing new material.
