The Mandevilles – Interview

Interview with Serena Pryne of The Mandevilles and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

SP: I’m a singer/songwriter, rock and roller.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

SP: I was born, started singing at the age of 3, found a Beatles record, became obsessed with music and desperately wanted to be in a band. After doing the high school band thing, followed by a few years of singing in Blues acts… I met Nick (my best friend, guitar player, collaborator) and began our musical journey. We’re on the same wavelength and it’s lead to a great partnership.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

SP: The Beatles – John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Petty, David Bowie, Frightened Rabbit, Biffy Clyro, HAIM.

Salvador Dali, Hunter S. Thompson, Frida Kahlo, Dave Chappelle, Laura Jane Grace, Quentin Tarantino, Amanda Nunes.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

SP: I’m living in a dream, I get to play music all of the time. Although covid isn’t helping the monetary side of that. Still, the dream is real and my goals are to keep living the dream! Ha. Also I’d love to play Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

SP: Nick and I are the principle songwriters in the band. There have been moments where we all jam together and something comes out of that too. We also co-write, and for a whack of these new songs we’ve been working with two very good friends, Neil and Ryan. We write about what we know. When it comes to lyrics, I’m definitely telling my life story and it usually revolves around relationships and trying to overcome the shittiest parts of living.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

SP: Any way possible. In person, at shows, live-streaming, social media… although I still haven’t given Tik Tok a shot… All of this has been disrupted due to the pandemic, but we’re focused on evolving our online presence even more. It’s a lot of work, but what else am I doing?

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

SP: Well now I’m pretty comfortable with it. It’s just the way things are, but I won’t lie, I’m a sucker for vinyl. Experiencing a record as a whole, side to side is irreplaceable.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

SP: “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. It’s everything. Daring, vulnerable, perfect.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

SP: When people say important and drop the Ts. What gives?

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

SP: Being able to travel and play different cities in front of strangers is always a proud moment for me. Also our song “Junkie” has hit over 256,000 plays on Spotify. That’s pretty fucking cool.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

SP: Trying to stay sane. Releasing new music from our upcoming full length album. Slow leak style. And figuring out Twitch (with the hopes of expanding our fanbase virtually)!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

SP:We have two full length albums out “ Goodnight Golden Sun” and “Windows and Stones”. We’re on our third single from the new record right now: “Lightning”. Aiming for a fall release for the entire album. All of our music is available pretty much everywhere digitally. If you need the physical goods, hit us up!
