The Foxtails – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

Kevin (K): A cocktail of disco, wine, and rocket fuel mixed to the tune of synth drenched indie pop

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

Ethan (E): Kevin and I met in high school French and we’ve been best friends ever since. Now he’s my go-to for support and advice and I like to think I add a special flavor of spontaneity into his life.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

E: Musical: Gerard Way, Jacob Collier, Lawrence Brownlee

Non-musical: Yung Pueblo, my mom, Kevin

K: Musical: The 1975, Elton John, Father John Misty, Kanye West, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend Non-musical: Hunter S. Thompson, Ernest Hemingway, George Carlin, Wes Anderson

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

E: COACHELLA 2022! To perform, share, and connect with others through our music!

K: To use music as a way to connect with people and spread joy and positivity. I also want to expand the Foxtails into an internet radio stream showcasing new artists and eventually a coffee shop/ performance venue.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

E: We both do, and oftentimes they’re very personal. It’s a way for us to understand each other and ourselves but sometimes they’re just for fun.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

K: In the age of the internet, our promo lives on social media. We’re active on Twitter and Instagram primarily and we’re learning how to use Tiktok as a medium for our content.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

E: I don’t see why not, might as well let them enjoy and share it. The last thing I want is for people to have a bad taste in their mouth about the band if we’re gatekeeping what we make.

K: I certainly don’t mind. Being a musician is kind of weird in that you use your product as advertisement for what you do. We make music and people will only support us if they first hear it and like it. So for that reason I think spreading our music as much as possible can only be a good thing.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

E: Giant Steps by John Coltrane. Self explanatory.

K: Clusterhug by iDKHOW. iDKHOW is a lesser known artist but this song just has a such a unique combo of energy, instrumentation, style, and power that I wish I wrote it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

E: Not nice people >:(

K: Prejudiced, small thinking, non flexible people

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

E: Finally learning what all the notes on the fretboard of a guitar are.

K: Writing, recording, and producing our first song. I remember showing it to friends and family and them actually being surprised it sounded good haha.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

K: We are working on more songs (always) and writing material for an upcoming EP. Between that we are working on starting our Foxtails Radio stream on YouTube so be on the look out for that soon and working with local coffee roasters to produce our own blend of Foxtails coffee. Lastly, we’re working with local artists to create a line of merchandise to go on sale soon!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

K: Our music is available on all major streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. For now we are not selling our music but we will have physical copies of our upcoming EP for sale when that drops next year.
