The Fall of Me – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

TFOM: TFOM is a Melodic Hard Rock group with a dark gothy flair. We all play characters and are not our normal selves while doing anything TFOM related. I guess you could consider us a concept band. Every song is a story and all the songs fit together to create one larger story line. Each of our characters play an active role in said story.    (Major foreshadow for our full length album)

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

TFOM: TFOM was formed late 2020/early 2021. Chelsea (Ariach) and Paul (Locrian) began rehearsing to play for a local charity event. Paul shared some riffs and the song, “The Fall of Me” was written. Donny (Abaddon) joined as our bassist shortly after and was the perfect fit. We began writing and after roughly 5 months we had the music written for our 6 song EP. We released the EP in 2022 and are looking to fill out our line up and perform live.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Paul:  Paul McCartney, Ritchie Blackmore, Bob Daisley, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jake E Lee, Steve Perry, Geoff Tate, Paul O’Neil, Tuomas Holopainen, Tobias Forge, Cap’n Jack Sparrow

Donny: Hard to say really because I listen to so many styles of music. But, Thrash metal is  my favorite most of the time. As far as non musical, anyone that creates art that I can relate to on a personal level.

Chelsea: As far as composition goes, I get a lot of influence from classical music. After having music theory beat into my head in both undergrad and grad school, I just can’t escape that classical training and composition style. Vocally…. I’d have to say Halestorm, Jinjer, In This Moment, Spiritbox, Evanescence. Non-musical…anything with a dark esthetic  I’m all about. Which is where the whole character, concept band came from.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Paul: To be successful and happy.

Donny: For my Children to be happy and safe

Chelsea: For my sons to grow into good/kind men

As a band: To take this as far as we absolutely can and give it our all.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

TFOM: All members of TFOM contribute to song writing. TFOM: They are about self reflection of the human condition

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

TFOM: Social Media, Word of mouth, Interviews

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

TFOM: It is a necessary evil. The one great thing though is how easy it is to discover new bands and as a new band to get your music out on a global level.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Paul: “The Poet and the Pendulum” by Nightwish.  It is a modern day masterpiece both musically and lyrically.

Donnie: “Subdivisions” by Rush. I relate to the song on a personal level, the feeling of not belonging anywhere.

Chelsea: I’m lame and don’t have an answer. To be honest I’ve never really thought about the songs I love in that way. I appreciate them for the masterpieces that I think they are.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

TFOM: Musically, The repetitive earworms that the industry jams down our throat.

Paul- not cleaning the microwave.

Donny: People that are egotistical and rude.

Chelsea: Not making the bed before you get in it.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Paul- Co-writing the song “The Fall of Me” and watching the musical vision come to life

Donnie- To be able to play in bands with my father when he was still alive. I wouldn’t be the person or musician I am without that. I miss him everyday.

Chelsea- Being hired as a young artist with Opera Theatre Saint Louis directly out of grad school.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

TFOM: Promoting Our EP and putting together a metal cover of “The Phantom of the Opera”.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

TFOM: The entire self titled EP is available on all the main streaming platforms, and we have two music videos for our songs “Parasite” and “Fall” on YouTube.
