The Down

The Down was formed in 2016 by three friends at Fallibroome Academy in Macclesfield. The band reflects the musical interests of the lads who are passionate about Rock, Indie and Punk music.

Members are:
Max Morrison (15) – Songwriter, Guitar and vocals
Sam Gordon (14) – Guitar and Bass Guitar
Dan Walters (12) – Drums

Tragedy transforms to triumph
In February 2017 Max was diagnosed with Leukaemia and began intensive chemotherapy treatment at Manchester Children’s Hospital. After the initial shock of what had happened to Max, the Band continued to practice fitting their sessions in and around Max’s ongoing treatment and varying energy levels.
Max decided that instead of the band having a cooling off period they should intensify their efforts to practice more and to work as a band on the songs he had written and covers that they like. Sam and Dan needed no encouragement they have and continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with their friend and frontman. The Down is now a band about three friends who realise the importance of following their dreams. They don’t want sympathy for what has happened to Max. Instead they want to inspire other teenagers and people whether they are ill or not to follow your dreams. Life will at times throw problems and obstacles your way…..it’s how you deal with those problems that count. The lads will follow their dreams performing and making music for as long as they possibly can.

The Down record at Jake Evans Macclesfield studio
On 22nd June 2017 the band spent the day recording at The Big Red studio in Macclesfield with musician/songwriter/engineer Jake Evans. The lads recorded 3 original songs plus a cover song with Jake engineering the tracks. A massive thank you to Jake Evans for making this happen and inspiring the lads with his creativity and expertise. The Down intend to use these tracks to raise money for charity with an upcoming project – more news to follow as and when it happens.
