SURfACE

SURfACE

English/Italian indie rock duo SURfACE were originally formed in Florence, Italy as the result of an artistic collaboration between Christopher Martinuzzi and Veronica Chincoli. Today, the band is a decade-strong transatlantic project, with Martinuzzi based out of Charlotte, North Carolina (USA) and Chincoli out of Florence. Together, the pair compose original songs in an indie-rock style profoundly influenced by the English music scene.

Martinuzzi, who is half-English, fronts the band on lead vocals and plays the keyboard/synthesizer and clarinet. Chincoli plays bass and also sings vocals. In 2015, guitarist and producer Marco Carnesecchi joined the band for production of Youniverse, as did drummer Yuri Baldassarre.

In April 2017, the band released the album’s first single, “Something in Between,” with a music video directed by Andrea Tani about the relationship between humans and nature and the impact of plastic pollution. The collaboration with Tani has subsequently yielded a video for the band’s second single, “Light Shadow,” co-produced by Chincoli and featuring two dancers in an abandoned building in the historic center of Florence.
