Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
S: At the moment, I am a solo artist for the project/band Stinkbrute. I play bass, guitars, drums, vocals and produce my own music.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
S: I am Bernardo Rebelo, drummer for the band Crimson Bridge, multi-instrumentalist for Shrouded Serenity and one of Midrift Guillotine’s vocalists. I started playing music and learning drums when I was 14, joined Crimson Bridge at 16 and started my first solo project Shrouded Serenity, at the time it was Post-Black Metal but later evolved into Experimental Black Metal. Since then I released albums and played countless shows with my bands and in 2021 I was featured on Midrift Guillotine releases. In 2020 I started Stinkbrute and now I’m releasing its debut album.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
S: Musically I am a big fan of Metal, of course, but I do enjoy a lot of Jazz Fusion and even some Hip Hop. Other influences include games, manga and animal rights activism.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
S: My goals are just to create the best music I can and play amazing shows. My dreams would be on the lines of making a living out of music and travelling around the world, whilst the world turns vegan and stops killing billions of animals per year.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
S: I write all my songs and they are all original. On the first Stinkbrute album the themes vary a lot, but to sum it up I mention things like the dairy industry, gore and for some reason comedy.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
S: Right now I don’t have any Stinkbrute shows booked. Promotion is all done online through a PR agency, social media and the like.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
S: I think nowadays people can listen to pretty much everything on streaming for free, like Spotify and YouTube. So I feel like there’s no need for people to steal. If someone has no other way of listening to music and no money at all to support the artist I don’t see a problem with downloading music online. Obviously there is a big difference from stealing from a small artist and a pop star but I never felt anger or anything whenever I saw my music on pirate websites. At the end of the day I just want to share my art and my message with as many people as possible.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
S: Maybe anything from Metallica in the 80’s, my favourite album by them is …And Justice For All and those songs just sound amazing, feel powerful and super fun to write and play live.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
S: I don’t have many but if I had to name one, it’s people being late, I am always punctual and end up having to wait for everyone.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
I wouldn’t say I have a single proudest moment in music but I feel proud to have learned how to create my own stuff and be able to play shows with my friends.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
S: At the moment I am working on a lot of Stinkbrute material, including a few splits, a full-length and some Crimson Bridge songs as well.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
S: At the moment, I have a few singles and a music video, after the 14th of May Stinkbrute’s debut will be available. You can listen to my music on all major streaming services, as well as support me on Bandcamp and buy merch on my online Tee Spring store.
