Spar Marta – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
SM: Sam: An Alternative Hard Rock band with a zesty hit of reggae
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
SM: Sam: Brief? Dan and Luke have been playing together for years in different bands. Me and Connor joined them around 2016-17 to complete the backline. We spent about 2 years without a singer until Ieva joined in 2018.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
SM: Conor: Non musical influences for me are people like Jason Lee, who’s been my favourite skateboarder, one of my favourite actors and is currently my favourite photographer. He skated with so much attitude and didn’t care what people thought about him, now he’s creating moody atmospheres with his photography which is one of my favourite things to try and do when making music.
Sam: I like bands that have a raw energy about them. Bands like Biffy Clyro, Alter Bridge and TOOL.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
SM: Sam: We all dream of playing the download main stage. Of course we want to play shows all over the world but that stage has a special place in our hearts.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
SM: Dan: We all contribute equally to the song writing process. This ultimately means that the songs youhear in their mature state are a solid representation of us as a collective, I believe this is why we have a unique sound.
Sam: We definitely recognise as a band that rock music has become a little stale in the last few years, and so we approach every song wanting to do something a little different.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
SM: Sam: Mainly through the Socials and word of mouth. I’d love to get a bus advert one day.
Dan: I want Barry Scott, the Cillit Bang guy, to be in a tv ad about our EP.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
SM: Sam: I think the convievence is awesome but I can’t resist a good vinyl. I love the ritual of taking it out of its sleeve, flipping it over, placing it down and switching it on.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
SM: Dan: Happy birthday and then collect my royalties to live my best life.
Sam: Any of the songs from the newest Tool album then I’d get to hang with the guys from Tool for most of my life.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
SM: Sam: People not wearing masks in shops. It’s really not hard people.
Luke: Not playing albums in their intended order.
Sam: I like to skip songs just to annoy him.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
SM: Sam: Playing the Camden Underworld is our proudest so far. It may not be the biggest but I loved the atmosphere and the stage there.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
SM: Sam: We have a lot of music ready to go and even more on the way. We love working on new songs together so we always have stuff in the pipeline.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
SM: Our self titled debut E.P. is available on all major platforms.
