Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
S: Somberwind is a Gothic Rock and dark metal band.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
S: Somberwind/Marco- began in the middle of 2018, when I composed some songs for a new recording, then I invited Caterina Nix for the female vocals I wanted in those tracks .After we recorded the songs, We realized we could continue, including some fellow musicians. Then we finished the whole album -REMAIN-. That’s been released under the Sleaszy Rider Records label. On April 09 of this year .
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
S: Well, My musical influences are mostly 80’s and 90’s Gothic Bands: Dreadful Shadows, The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission UK to mention some, and some dark metal influences. We always listen to the classics: The Doors, Black Sabbath, Carole King, Patty Smith, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned etc. We often get inspiration from pieces of Literature like Edgar Allan Poe and some dark poetry like Oscar Wilde. I do a lot of History reading too: the Roman Empire, Celtic history, American history and so on. We like to have some Cinema in our lives too. I really like Nolan movies, and of course Mystery and horror movies.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
S: I think that when it comes to dreaming, I would really love to go on Tour to play live at the big Gothic festivals from Central and East Europe.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
S: Marco writes the songs, music and lyrics.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
S: We work with a couple of Promotion Agencies, and we always promote our releases in magazines, social media, radio, e-zines,fanzines,etc.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
S: For unknown bands is a good way to show their work, but to a certain point. Those artists need money (income) and music downloading doesn’t give huge amounts (the expected amounts). So selling merchandise is a better way to receive money to continue producing, but Live Shows are unmistakably the best way to gain fans, friends and recognition. I always prefer the physical formats, but as a fast way to spread your work: streaming is the best means.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
S: One of my favorite songs is Deliverance from The Mission. I also think -Temple of Love- from The Sisters of Mercy could’ve been a song written by me, no doubt.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
S: That kind of musician who is delivering a wonderful product and we get to know their results from a computer only, but we’ve never seen them play a single note. That infuriates me exceedingly.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
S: I have great memories in general, but the one I could always highlight is that by the year 2002, in Santiago the Chile, I was invited to play the lead guitar in a one-night show with the master Wayne Hussey from The Mission. I was the guitarist for one show, playing the hits of the band (Severina, Wasteland, Beyond The Pale, Deliverance and many more).
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
S: We are working on two new videos , one is the music video for our single -COVEN- from our album Remain and we are editing a live session we recorded in august of 2021 also. Our next live performance will be on November 13th.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
S: We have our album -Remain- in all major streaming platforms: Deezer, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Facebook Music, and it is also available physically worldwide, you can find it on major online stores and directly from the record label.
