Russell James – Interview

Russell James – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views

Q: What type of artist are you?

A: Russell – I’m definitely a pop artist but my music has different elements including rock, hip hop, and R&B.

Q: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

A: Russell – My name is Russell James and I am an Electronic Pop artist. I’ve played in many bands before and I just got tired of things not working out and having to rely on other people for my success. I finally decided to go solo because now, I only have to rely on myself. I’ve been solo for about a year now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made musically.

Q: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

A: Russell – Hmmmm….. as far as music goes this one definitely gets me thinking. I’ve had so many influences from so many talented artists/bands from completely different genres that it makes it hard to really narrow it down. I can say as of right now my biggest influence are probably Maroon 5, Twenty One Pilots, Logic, NF, Rag n’ Bone Man, and Taylor Swift. My biggest non music related influence is Jesus Christ. I strive everyday to become more like him.

Q: What are your dreams and goals?

A: Russell – I would love to leave a positive impact on the world. Being able to have the ability to create something to positively impact someone’s life is a wonderful gift. If I can just help one person throughout their day and encourage them, its worth it to me in the end.

Q:  Who writes your songs, what are they about?

A: Russell – I write the lyrics, melodies, and structures for all my songs. I work with multiple producers that create beats for me. I draw inspiration from real life situations and experiences whether it be personally or a friend/family member. I feel like my lyrics are very relatable to many people just  because they’re very real, raw, and emotional.

Q: How do you promote your band and shows?

A: Russell – Social Media is a great platform for promotion. I’m mainly on Facebook and Instagram. Those are both tools that I frequently use for promotional purposes and also a great way for me to interact with my fan base.

Q: What do you think about downloading music online?

A: Russell – If you’re stealing then obviously that’s wrong. If you’re referring to downloading digitally versus purchasing a physical copy then that’s more of a preference. I personally download digitally because it’s just much more convenient. I love the ability of being able to listen to whatever I want, whenever I want. I believe streaming services are definitely the way of the future whether we like it or not just because it’s very affordable and convenient.

Q: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

A: Russell – The Poke’mon theme song, because who doesn’t like that opening theme? It’s so darn catchy.

Q: What are some of your pet peeves?

A: Russell – I cant stand it when people are rude for no reason. Go somewhere else with that mess.

Q: What is your proudest moment in music?

A: Russell – Seeing someone sing your song back to you is probably one of the greatest feelings of achievement for a singer/songwriter. I guess you could say it definitely makes me feel proud.

Q: So what are you working on at the moment?

A: Russell – I’m currently working on releasing an EP this year and also releasing multiple music videos to support the release as well. I’ve recently released my single “Comedown” along with a music video. The video is available on Facebook and YouTube while the song is available on all major streaming services.

Q: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there

A: Russell – My shows this year will be promoting the release of my EP. If you’d like exclusive access to hear them before they release later this year, now is the chance.
