Roux’d – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
R: i’d like to say i`m a old school rocker but i go in and out of music genres so much that i`m confused ahaha but i would have say i`m crazy and cant follow rules about staying in my lane i drive all over the place so i`m a well rounded artist from rock to metal i dont want to be put in a box with music but I am self confessed old school rocker, My name ROUX’D (pronounced rude) i like combining thoughtful lyrics with solid sing along choruses and big guns guitars and fat bass with a pounding back beat drums.Plus im a big showman for live performances and like to challenge even the most hardened of critics of guest to remain in their seats.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
R: Well i`m from Los Angeles/ Sweden, i`m Cherokee indian/Swedish/French i was born a hyperactive child, singing and dancing was a way of burning off excess energy, but it seems like i still have a full tank of enegry to go round so fill her up.
In my childhood, there was never any shortage of influences in household was filled with father playing guitar and mother singing and and brother playing drums and whatever else there was around but always a beat and something with music and me i was just making noise by screaming loud .
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
R: In my house there was Native American music plus alot of rock music from Van Halen, Elton John, Prince, Diana Ross ,Billie Holliday,Slash,Queen and many many more, many of which can be in my music. So my influences are the world of sound now i look for poeple and sounds to make me think how i can use that sound in music.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
R: My dream and goal had been reached when i was 15 years old it was when i heard myself on the radio. See when i was young i thought people where inside the speakers from the stereo and they would play until the next song came on then another small band would play then take a break and then repeat the song every 20 mins ahahahah. But when i heard my own song on the radio i thought wow i`m not in the speakers i`m in a car and i jumped out and started to scream loud and remember that day nothing can touch that feeling ever again to hear yourself on the radio for the first time is the moment you think about the world i thought who heard it and where in the world they are located ? i have toured and traveled different parts of the world and have gotten to experience smiles and different cultures of people coming up to me and saying this was the best show i have ever seen . My goal is to keep challenging myself to never stop creating and trying new things that i have not tried before.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
R: I am the sole writter for all my songs and i arrange the music. But nowdays i work together with my friend and brotha from another music mother my producer is Max Novikov who i always send music too and he always saying wait till i catch up from the first song you sent me ahahah we are a great team together we have not figured out who`s Batman and who`s Robin ahaha but maybe we will some day but for now we are equal in creating music. The songs are about Love,Hate, Pain, Schizophrenia,Suicide everyday life even in the simpliest song it has a message i never write a song that you think means nothing listen close and you will find the message in there hidden behind the words
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
R: Its funny now since social media has changed the game its easier to reach more people and promote in your area or in other country i use the ads placement but today i still like to meet and hand out flyers to people and tell them come on down and i will buy you a beer or something to drink and really i do it . i also love to leave free cds at the places i fly too. on the tables at the resturants or in the stores where i am shopping and see where they end up at. i am an old school hands on guy but my promtional group they do the social media things .
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
R: Well there is a 2 way street here .Its great when the music is going out to the people and they are enjoying it .but the other thing is people dont see the cost that is takes to make the album or the cost of the studio time and thats ok no worries ,the thing that i dont like the most is the fact you spend so much money to make the music amazing and people listen to it in cheap headphones !!! whats the point if your going to steal music at least listen to it in a Great headset please!!! You saved money on Stealing the music Just go get Great pair of earbubds and listen to the music the way the Artist intended it to be heard.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
R: Well i dont know i am always writting. All the rock songs written by other artists where suppose to be by them . i am always looking to write the one that i can say wow thats the one song i can never do again. i say i cant get better then this ever .but it will never happen i keep rocking it so it hasnt been written yet .
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
R: Ohhh great quesion when i hear a wrong note on a guitar or bass or piano even when i am singing in the studio or live its like a cat scratching on the blackboard i cant stand it bleeding ears.also when i see bands using banding tracks i go to their show and hear a damn big orchestra coming from a 4 piece band and no one is playing either keyboards or strings
i think or whatever i understand you are trying to make it bigger then it is but play back come on the fans came to hear and see you live not a tv program.
even if you are not able to duplicate the sound on the record get close enough and the fans will still have a great time .Go online and read about backing track shows and how people feel about it .
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
R: To travel to different parts on the world and play your music and watching people sing your songs this is awesome and amazing at the same time the feeling when someone in the front row and they are screaming the lyrics louder then you .plus receiving an indie award for best album of the year that was great also and free drinks ahahah i never pass up a free beer even if i`m buying it ahahah
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
R: Wow at the moment i am working on a short mini movie is a suspenseful horror movie i wrote the script and directed it and then wrote the sound track to. It will be out hopfully in 2020 around Otorber plus working with a new group i found its a girls group from Russia they are a dance /pop group i wrote the music and started to produce their music with Max so hopefully the ep will be out soon .
