Romano Nervoso – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

RN: My name is Romano Nervoso, I’m an Italian multi-instrumental rocker.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

RN: I started learning & playing drums in a band at the age of 14.  In 2009, I decided to become a singer and so I created a character named Romano Nervoso.  It’s now more than 10 years that I’ve been recording albums, playing gigs in Europe and Covid 19 is not going to stop me.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

RN: My musical influences are rock bands as Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Alice Cooper, the Saints, the Buzzcocks, the Hives, … I also grew up listening to Italian singer like Luci Battisti, Eduardo Bennato, Pino Daniele, I still listen to & love those Italian artists.

My non-musical influences are horror movies, serial killers, mob stories, football (huge fan of Napoli) & food.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

RN: I think my dreams and goals are the same: playing concerts, recording music every day until I die, to be happy in my life, spreading love through my music & making rock n’ roll great again

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

RN: I write all the songs, the lyrics and the arrangements. In the albums, I also record the drums and some instruments like percussions, piano and sometimes the bass.

The songs are everyday stories.  I don’t have a political opinion, I’m not an activist, I’m not trying to save the world.  My songs are about “Love each other” and “having fun”.  The world is depressing enough, so I try to bring some positive vibes with my lyrics into this cruel world.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

RN: The band promotion is done through the label Mottow Soundz.  So far, they are doing a very good job and we regularly get really good reviews worldwide.  The shows are promoted by the agency Nada Booking and we also used social media like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

RN: I never download music online, I’m still buy cds, lps, dvds, … I’m old-school, but I think it’s destroying the music business and a lot of independent labels are closing down.  Money wise, I feel the difference between now and 15 years ago … so, even if I don’t know how to download a song, I’m not a big fan of this modern way to buy music anyway.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

RN: Svalutation by Adriano Celentano … cos It’s one of my favourite song and it’s the first rock n’ roll guitar riff I’ve heard.  When people ask me what rock n’ roll is for me, I always say the same : “Listen to Svalutation, you’ll understand”

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

RN: People’s behaviour in general.  I’m more an animal lover than a human lover, more & more so.  When I go out and I see how people behave in society, I feel every day that I’m less & less part of this world. Since lockdown, I got the feeling that the situation is getting worse every day.  People are more selfish, more scared, more aggressive,  … for my third album, I recorded a song called “I’d Rather Kill a Man Than an Animal”, so …I think that says it all.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

RN: My first Romano Nervoso show, because it was the first time I sang in front of an audience or when I was invited by Johnny Hallyday to be his support act … 2 sold out shows in front of 22.000 people every night.  The guy was a living legend so it was an honour to be invited by him and to know that he liked my project.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

RN: I’ve been working a lot since the lockdown :

I wrote and recorded (on demo) all the songs for the new Romano Nervoso

I’m going to release in December a new Christmas song called “Covid Christmas”

I recorded a lot of drums as a session musician

I started to record my solo project “Giac Taylor” (all the instruments are played by me). I’ve already recorded 3 albums since June and the goal is to record 7 albums in a year.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

RN: All my albums, singles & ep’s are online, except the first record “Italian Stallions”, it’s sold out.  You can buy those on all the classical music platforms like iTunes, Spotify, … but the best way to buy them is to go directly on the label website : www.mottowsoundz.com
