Riveryard – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

R: A three piece indie power house

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

R: The band with it’s current members was created in January of 2017 as 4-piece. After the previous lead singer ran out on the band the night before a new year’s eve gig, Simon was asked if he could fill in last minute. Knowing only a few songs from the set list he stayed up all night remembering lyrics and agreed to do it. He officially joined the band a week later. Dom and Lennon have played in a variety of bands together throughout their youth, Lennon originally being the bass player. We started out doing mainly pub gigs to boost our following in our hometown and moved on to Manchester clubs after a while. We went on to release 3 tracks, seaside, piece of mind and capture, and went to record 5 in London.

As of the beginning of this year we had a reshuffling of roles with our drummer deciding it was time to leave. After trying out many different drummers we could not find a suitable person to match our style and so Lennon made the brave decision to take up the drums himself. Having never played before it was a struggle at first but he soon got the hang of it. Simon picked up the bass alongside singing as he played guitar from a very young age and we became a 3-piece.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

R: Musically we are influenced by many different artists new and old, like U2, The Smiths, Catfish and The Bottlemen and Sam Fender to just name a few.

Non-musically we all are very diverse and listen to a wide variety of different music, ranging from tech metal bands like Periphery, pop music like Ed Sheeran and classic rock like Led Zeppelin.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

R: Our dreams have no limit, we want to do it all from playing huge arenas and festivals round the globe to creating records which multimillion people listen to. We want to do it all.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

R: The music starts being written by Dom our guitarist bringing in an idea. This can range from a chord structure with some lyrics or just a little guitar lick. We then work on it musically to add the bass parts and drum parts onto the track. Record a draft structure then Dom takes it away and writes lyrics for the track. Simon our bassist/vocalist then learns the vocals and adjusts them if needed. Then the song is complete.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

R: Social media is our main way of doing this. Everyone owns a smartphone in this day and age and everyone has at least one form of social media.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

R: Downloading music is bad. Not just for us as a band but for music as a whole. You wouldn’t go into a shop and nick a tv would you?

So why would you go online and download a song you havent paid for?

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

R: Which song to choose? There are so many great songs to choose from.

Probably Morning Glory by Oasis. Its an absolute tune and a half. Would also be sick to play live and get the reaction Oasis did of their crowd while playing it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

R: People skipping the queue and then pretending they had no idea there was a queue! Like what the cheek!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

R: So far releasing our first single as a band “Seaside” it was the first piece of recorded music we put our name to and put out there.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

R: Currently due to the climate of the world at the moment we are working heavily on increasing our social media presence. Trying new ways to reach our audience through new campaigns and new forms of social media like TikTok.

Writing new material at the moment is also another heavy focus for us. The new music is a new level and we are so proud of it.

We are also releasing music at the moment, five songs over five months to give our listens something to look forward to.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

R: We currently have five tracks available for purchasing and streaming which are playable/purchasable on a variety of platforms including Spotify, YouTube music and deezer.
