Random Ties – Interview
Interview with Youssef (Frontman for Random Ties and guitar & vocals) and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
RT: Simply putting it, we are a heavy hitting alternative rock band based in Detroit, KD who plays the drums thunderously bringing that heavy hitting power with amazing fills & breaks, Thew whose on the second guitar, compliments my playing with his fills that are all over our EP & Steven originally from Nirvana’s hometown brought a grunginess to the album with some great baselines.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
RT: Born in Beirut, Lebanon, I grew up in a period of war & chaos, I moved around allot when I was young and lived in 9 different countries. My first exposure to music was listening to my grandad sing the Opera which sounded so melodic yet powerful. When I was 8 years old I started listening to the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton & that’s where my love for music grew. The era that shaped & inspired me the most was the 90’s bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice n Chains it really impacted my life & made me pick up my first guitar.
Fast forwarding to today, my wife & I recently moved to US in order to pursue my music career and in the summer of 2019 Random Ties were formed
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
RT: In addition to the bands I mentioned, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden to name a few & non-musical influences definitely my grandparents
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
RT: Artistically 3 things:
Continue writing music that others can dance & rock to,
Grow our audience, this is why we are thankful to you for giving us a voice and an opportunity to tell our story & share our music
Have an impact on society via our music so there’s an evolution of the status quo;
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
RT: We just released our first EP “Believe” which I wrote & it is inspired by life, the roller coaster ride we go through touching on subjects such as losing a loved one, difficulties in starting a family, struggling with faith, moving on.
All the songs were written with a high energy feel good vibe & a dynamic sound topped with an honest message.
From the song believe: “There was a time I lost a dream” It is never too late & no matter how hard it feels, things get better if you hang in there long enough is what I would like people to take away from it while they are rocking to our tunes.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
RT: We are very active on social media & lucky to have our songs played on several radio outlets in the US & Europe that do look out for us and keep the listeners informed. A shoutout to Jeff over at cowboyjoeradio.com for always supporting our band.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
RT: This is the future & our reality, it’s a double edge sword on one hand it has given an opportunity for so many artists & bands to release their music and on the other side it does limit the revenue stream for bands due to the amount of releases as the listener has many options. Last I checked there are 40k songs released each day so you can easily get lost in the shuffle.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
RT: Tough one, the first song that came to my mind is Estranged by Guns n Roses, ask me that question tomorrow you will get a different answer. This song has everything the rhythm, lyrics, solo it’s just so complete & brilliantly written.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
RT: I’ll tell you what my wife always tells me, I make allot of noise when am home especially in the morning, by the way I am a morning person & lately I ‘ve been spending too much time on social media trying to promote our EP & music video both recently released.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
RT: As a band I believe the best is yet to come but definitely releasing our EP was a proud moment but we believe we are just scratching the surface.
My other proud moment was being able to hang with the band members of Pearl Jam backstage during one of their shows.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
RT: We are working on releasing a new single called “Thawra” along with a music video and started on our second EP which will be released by the end of the year no title yet.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
RT: Our EP “Believe” consisting of 6 songs is available on all streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, apple music, band camp & all our videos are on our YouTube channel link below
