Rage Is My Rival – Interview

Interview with Colt from Rage Is My Rival and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

Colt- I’d describe our band as metal band at heart with metal core, and heavy rock influences

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

Colt- we are from Girard KS. We basically all met through different circles in the music scene  around where we live. We all knew each of us had a good take on our particular talent and just seemed like a no brainer 🙂

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

Colt- so much inspires me whether it be my family or everyday life..some years back I lost 3 limbs due to frostbite trying to find shelter…the struggle dealing with that “adventure” has def been a struggle to say the least but without being able to write about it I don’t know where I’d be.. probably drinking myself to death. I like to write about life, death,” sticking it to the man”, and progression in life.. I’m a pretty open book and I’d like to think it shows in our music 🙂

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

Colt-I aspire to be the best me I can possibly be music has kept me out of some crazy trouble over the years and without it I’d be nothing…in the end I aspire to someday have ppl cover my music like I used to do before our band started writing our own tunes…that feeling would be enough for me to be a happy camper when i die.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

Colt- my proudest moment so far is usually after every show like for example the progression is there.. every show something gets tweaked for the better…my mates  and I  are constantly progressing, and learning from mistakes they may have made in the past. If you  all have the same mindset that it could always get better it definitely will 🙂

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

Colt-I mean, it can be somewhat of a challenge at times…other times it can be fairly easy.. having a solid team to back is a must in my opinion. the real heros are the ppl behind the scene helping u get noticed

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

Colt-We promote our shows ourselves on social media as well as our team…booking,

Usually I do. Usually I just hit up the venue owner or promoter, send them a few link of our music…that’s when u wait and let faith take over.Im a firm believer on if “if u believe it will happen it can”🙂. We got a lot of performance’s coming up Aug 26th we will be playing in Parsons KS at August Heat. Sep 1st we will be playing in Pittsburg KS for Dirtbag Destruction at the dirty mule. Then we head to Omaha Nebraska for the Reverb Lounge. After that it’s on to Colorado Springs to Sunshine Studios live, then back to Omaha again for a show at Dream on the Green as well as many more lol they just keep coming lol

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

Colt- I think it’s a very useful tool.short of having to pay for the services it can get your band or an artist known  way faster than it used to be.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Colt- that one’s a toughy for me as I’m still writing songs..there will never be a time for me that I would say” I wish I wrote something about that” there’s always time 😉

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

Colt- For me attitude and how u carry yourself  is everything. Let people express themselves to their full ability.. if I could change anything it would be that.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

Colt- right now we are working on new music of course that never stops lol, in the process of releasing a new music video,   and also recording new music as well
