Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
Premortal Breath: Hey Pete! Thanks for the invite and the opportunity to connect with your audience. To make our first answer short – we are a heavy metal band from Germany called Premortal Breath.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Premortal Breath: Premortal Breath was founded in 2010. Since then, we recorded 3 EP´s – the most recent one “Of angels and wolves” will be released in September. Of course, we had some changes in our line-up along the way. But we have a very stable core on the guitars, drums and vocals since many years and Matze our new bass player is a perfect fit. We played about 70+ shows and are looking forward to every opportunity of playing live.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Premortal Breath: This is a tough one as everyone of our musicians has different influences. Artists like Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, In Flames, Metallica and many more gave us company ever since we fell in love with heavy metal. However, we don’t try to copy any band but develop our own sound. Our lyrics reflect real life hardships, like the loss of a friend in “Hawk” or a challenging childhood in “Of angels and wolves”.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Premortal Breath: To continue for at least one more decade with more albums to come and to stay who and how we are.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Premortal Breath: Most of the time one of us comes up with a cool riff that we enhance by jamming or someone has a song loosely structured that gets fleshed out then. Lyrics are contributed mainly by Tommy and Seb, sometimes Oli a close friend of ours passes us one of his lyrical ideas.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
Premortal Breath: Mainly on Facebook and pretty old-school with flyers and posters. But we also have a WhatsApp group with our fans where we always share our news.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
Premortal Breath: The new normal we guess. It is easy, fast and cheap. Even though we are always producing our albums physically on CD and there are some people who prefer to buy them in this format. Nevertheless it is a double-edged sword, you are able to reach a bigger audience, but you loose some revenue.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Premortal Breath: Everyone in the band has his heroes and favourite songs he maybe wishes he’d written. But the songs that we have written were only possible in the combination of musicians that make up Premortal Breath, so we are very proud of every single one of them.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
Premortal Breath: On is the waste of food. To be seen in hotels at the buffet. People just fill their plates instead of walking several times. Another on is bullying. You can´t imagine how much harm it can cause even for a lifetime.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
Premortal Breath: To see our fans partying with us and singing our songs by heart at our shows.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
Premortal Breath: We are in full preparations for the HAWK FEST 3 on September 10th where we will also release our new EP “Of angels and wolves”. A small self-organized festival where Premortal Breath is also on the running order. During rehearsal we are not only preparing for shows but we also work on new ideas for the next album. Stay tuned!
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Premortal Breath: Right now, we focus on Hawk Fest and our release party. Some other shows are already planned but not yet announced. Please feel invited to come to one of our shows, party with us and become part of our family!
