Ophelia’s Eye

Ophelia’s Eye
‘The Demon Behind My Mind’
(Modern Metal)

Release Date: October 8, 2021
FFO: As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth

Ophelia’s Eye previously known as Project Penny and later on Red Fire Dragon. As both names occured to be to generic and not fitting the band’s music the band decided to change the name to Ophelia’s Eye based on the novel “The Sandman” from E. T. A. Hoffmann. The story is about the traumatic childhood experience of the student Nathanael which makes its way to the surface through the surprising encounter with the weather glass dealer Coppola. He believes he recognizes the devilish lawyer Coppelius, who is responsible for his father’s death. When the beautiful but quite Olimpia captivates him, he loses himself more and more between delusion and reality. To make the name sound rounder, Olimpia is called Ophelia in the band name. Through our songs the listeners should also lose the connection to reality – at least for a while.

“Fight for Us” is intended to encourage people to let go of everyday life through music, to immerse themselves and simply enjoy the concert. It’s also a call to the metal community to support the smaller bands as well, presented with exaggerated, figurative but not literal language.

“Speak Words of Destruction” is a processing of the partial separation, hostility and dishonesty of humanity and the desire to talk more and more openly with each other, to sort out problems and live more harmoniously together instead of relationships suddenly collapsing on you. It’s the realization that most problems arise from poor, or lack of communication.

“Ophelia’s Eye” is a reference to our band name and the narrative of how we imagine Ophelia as a band: Mystical, attractive but also vicious and powerful. It makes you forget everything, both your enemies but also your friends and you drift more and more on a dark path.

From the band: “We have chosen the three songs we “grew up” together with. These songs were put together at the very beginning after we had our complete line-up. Therefore they’ve grown close to our hearts. We have also chosen them to give the listeners a glimpse on what they can expect from future songs without giving away too much from the upcoming album, which we will record at the end of October, and the beginning of November.”
