Next Stop Olympus – Interview

PD: What type of artist are you?

NSO: We are a metal core / post hardcore band who have influences of rock ’n’ roll.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

NSO: We started Next Stop Olympus in 2017, spend the rest of the year writing our debut EP ‘Hit The Ground Running’ and recorded in early 2018 with that being released mid 2018, spend the next year or so playing as many shows as we could whilst we were writing new music. We went to record our follow up EP in September of 2019 at Innersound studio in York, unfortunately Covid delayed the process but we finally got to release our brand new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ on 9th April 2021.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

NSO: Musically we wouldn’t even be a band if it wasn’t for The Amity Affliction, they started Matt and Conor off with the idea of starting a band, as for influences in the way we write everyone has different tastes that shine through, for an example Harry is a big queen fan and we think that can be seen in his vocals and solos. For non-musical influences we always give a big shout out to Sean Bean for always taking the hit in the movies and Danny Devito for just being perfect.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

NSO: Obviously we’d love to get to the point where we can consider making music for a living and to play Download would be a great goal because we’re all big fans of the festival.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

NSO: We all have a hand in writing the songs so there’s not one specific writer, we’ve all bought a skeleton of a song to the table then we sit down together and just build it from there. Our recent EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ is about stuff we’ve all been though or go through personally and we managed to work that into a story of a man who’s been betrayed and turns to angry then alcohol and despair as he hits his lowest point.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

NSO: Primarily just through social media and the usual streaming services.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

NSO: It’s just the way the world has gone, as long as people are listening to us for now that’s alright.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

NSO: All 5 of us would probably have a different answer but Conor said ‘A Box Full Of Sharp Objects’ by The Used for being the perfect example of a post hardcore song and Matt said ‘To The Stage’ by Asking Alexandria for just being the first song I fell in love with.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Matt – Untidiness

Conor – Bad manners

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Watching people sing along to our songs live is always incredible and obviously releasing new music so when we released ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ we were extremely proud.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

NSO: Well our new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ has only just come out on 9th April but we’re already working on new songs.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

NSO: We have two EP’s available and it’s on all the usual streaming sites and on our Merch store.
