Never Knew – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
NK: I’m all about having the music connect with people on every level and at the same time letting it be an escape from myself.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
NK: I really got into the post-hardcore/metal scene around the age of 10. Listening to bands like Underoath, Silverstein and Norma Jean. A few years later I really wanted to learn vocals so I did. I was in and out of garage bands throughout the years. I decided to start this solo project last year just as a healthier way to cope with my anxiety, depression and self-hatred.
PD: Who are your musical influences?
NK: As a vocalist I would have to say Shane Told (Silverstein), Dave Stephens (WCAR) and Chris Roetter (LMTF). They have all had a big impact on me.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
NK: I just want to be able to reach as many people as possible that can connect with the music.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
NK: I mainly write the lyrics and melodies. I do however work with some incredible outside musicians that really help bring my ideas to life. Mainly the songs are about past situations and the struggles involved in dealing with your own mental health.
PD: How do you promote your band?
NK: This project is recently new. There isn’t much promotion going towards it right now, but you can check out and stay up to date by following on social media:
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
NK: I think it’s awesome, as long as the artist is getting their credit. By downloading/streaming the music online can help reach so much more new fans in this day and age.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
NK: I can’t pick just one. The whole album ‘Dead Reflection’ from Silverstein. There isn’t a bad song on that album, I can listen to that front and back without any skips. Some songs on that record are really heavy, while others you can just dance to. All around a perfect record.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
NK: I don’t have many pet peeves, but one of my biggest ones is people being so closed minded. Just open your eyes and see the world outside for what it can be.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
NK: I just released the EP ‘Internal Relapse’ in May, but I am currently working on a couple singles that I’m hoping to release by next year.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
I have a single ‘Thrown Out’ and the EP ‘Internal Relapse’ that can be streamed from all major streaming sites. (Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, etc.)
