National Service Release New Single ‘Caving’ November 2020.

National Service, an alt-rock band formed of Fintan Campbell (lead vocals & rhythm guitar), Daniel Hipkin (bass, synth, backing vocals), Iain Kelly (lead guitar & backing vocals) & Matthew Alston (drums), are releasing their new single, Caving, on the 13th of November 2020 via iconic label Fierce Panda.

“Caving was written at a time when I was getting crushed under the weight of my own expectations. Pressures I put upon myself and commitments I made at work, at home, with music and with friends. I wanted to be smashing everything – you know that nonsense about

living your best life? I don’t subscribe to that, but on some level, it gets to you. Never saying no to anyone or anything, never stopping; constantly active, thinking, chasing. Dreams, goals, ambitions, success. If I can just make it through these next three months, everything will be good. I’ll slow down, stop maybe and just begin enjoying it all. Just one more push until I’m settled and happy. But it never comes, because every time you get there, you readjust the goalposts and everything shoots into the distance again. It’s this purgatory and this perpetual feeling that you’re not good enough yet, but you will be if you try just a little harder for just a little longer.

Never content, never finished.

It gets to the point where you don’t even know where or who you are anymore.”

– Fintan Campbell

NATIONAL SERVICE are four friends who have been making music in various forms since school. The band formed in 2017 and signed to Fierce Panda records later in the year, releasing their first single, ‘A Little More Time’ to critical acclaim (Nothing But Hope & Passion, The Tipping Point and Bitter Sweet Symphonies). The follow up, ‘Timid Kisses’, was BBC 6 Music track of the week and was Steve Lamacq’s National Anthem and received airplay on Radio X, KERRANG! Radio, BBC Introducing London and Absolute Radio.

Since then, the band have been up to Scotland, playing shows across London and supported Man Of Moon’s London showcase with their own unique brand of tense, tersely modern post-punk / new wave / indie rock. On stage, National Service are a murky and melodic oil slick that ignites into a panic of urgent confession-vocals, haunted melodies, hectic grooves, raging guitars and searing, ruined noise – bar floor divorce-core.

They’re now excited to release their new single ‘Caving’ this November, with their debut full length coming 2021
