Mynas – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
Mynas is a four man group consisting of Vocals, Guitars, Bass and drums and we love writing and playing metal music
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
We started as a studio project back in 2013. By 2014 The two founding members Mark Bazar and Miles Lanham decided that the project would be fun to take to the live stage. So, Mynas recruited Jeff Pritz (Lead Guitar) and Mike Fitzgerald (Drums). We spent the last part of 2014 and the first half of 2015 finishing our first LP “Fear The Slave”. It was released in September of 2015 and Mynas played its first live show in October of that same year. Unfortunately that line up would not survive past January of 2016, when Mike Fitzgerald left the band, for personal reasons.
March found Mynas recruiting now current drummer Mauricio Silva. We finished out 2016 playing a string of shows in Las Vegas, NV.
By May of 2017 the band developed a very strong following. Giving us a win at Xopz battle of the fans which guaranteed a spot on that years warped tour. The four of us immediately started planning to record a second album. Unfortunately everything halted when we were forced to take the rest of the year off due to Miles requiring a complex surgical procedure.
After only a week of recovery Miles insisted that writing resume. By March of 2018 Mynas started production of our most recent LP “Dead To The Unknown” which was released on January 25th of 2019.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Our musical influences are vast. Each one of us pulls from similar places. In flames, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, Metallica, Wage War, Hans Zimmer… The list goes on. As for non-musical. Our families, friends and fans.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
We dream about having a fanbase strong enough to warrant putting on our own tour as a single act. Our goals are to tour internationally by next year and start production on a new record. We keep expanding our selves musically.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Generally Miles will start the lyrics with a very clear idea. Ultimately, we all give input lyricly and musically. We tend to focus on societal indoctrination and reflection of oneself. Mostly philosophical topics.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
One on one interaction is very effective and so is social media. We use both. Events on facebook, Videos on youtube, Twitter, pictures of us getting ready to record, talking to someone at work or at the store. We sold tickets to a guy standing in line before. He asked about the shirt. Next thing you know. He’s looking us up on FB, listening on spotify, BAM! buying tickets to the gig.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
It’s not very popular. Clearly, streaming is the future. It’s all about convenience. Streaming is convenient and allows the listener an opportunity to find new music that caters to their personal tastes with little to no effort. Downloads take up space on your computer or device.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Battery by Metallica! It’s just genius. The music is so well put together, the writing of each riff. There is a feeling in that song that just can not be replicated. It’s an amazing piece.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
Complaining is at the top of the list. People that don’t follow directions. Empty promises. Elitist are the worst.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
The completion of “Dead To The Unknown” We are so proud of this work. From the moment we recorded the last note to the last drum hit. We all sat back and felt accomplished and amazed by the work we just completed. The common question we ask ourselves. “ARE YOU A FAN?” once we listened to it we were proud of what we had done.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
Right now, we are promoting the hell out of this new LP! we want everyone to hear it and we feel once you listen to it you will Love it!
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
The next date we will be playing is March 1st in San Diego, CA at The Merrow. It’s the first annual San Diego Metal Alliance. That makes it pretty special. Mynas is very happy to be apart of that!
