Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
Chris Underhill (g,v)
Andy Hale (b)
Jimmy Boyle (d)
PD: What type of artist are you?
CU: We make noise, some may say a Punk Band.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
CU: We were formed in August 2017 by myself (Chris) and Andy after a string of failed bands. Jamie joined to complete the line up in September 2018 and ended the year with the recording of our debut EP Failures Vol.1, which was released early 2019. Throughout 2019 we were making our presents known on social media, playing shows, making friends in the scene. We ended the year with the release of Disappointment. 2020 was a quiet year, not sure why? but in June we released a fiery track called Selfish. We managed to get into Monolith Studios in London to record our upcoming EP Failures Vol.2 and into Skyline Studios to record a one off track written by Pete Drake called Arguments are Contagious for the Pete Drake Project Vol.1.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
JB: Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, FightStar.
CU: Musically the list is too long. Non-musical influences in terms of inspiration for My Latest Failure then everything that pisses me off.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
JB: A goal of mine is to actually know our songs by name. The dream is to start gigging again.
CU: … playing shows, making music that people can enjoy. My Latest Failure has been much more than I ever thought it would be. Hard to explain but would love to see someone 10 years from now wearing a My Latest Failure t-shirt saying these guys are great.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
CU: Lyrically, me. It’s my feelings, thoughts (at the time) and personal experiences, it’s a way I can express myself. Musically, we create it as a team. Whatever vibes well when we start to play, we don’t restrict ourselves to a style or genre, anything can be thrown to the table. Basically we just do what we want.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
CU: We promote a lot online especially Facebook , Instagram and twitter. I find social media so powerful, I have connected with many bands and fans since promoting My Latest Failure online. Without it we wouldn’t have re-connected with Jamie, record our first EP, have our first gig, or even be involved with the Pete Drake Project.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
CU: Streaming and downloading music has help us reach a wider audience, for that I am thankful but for me can’t beat having a physical copy whether it’s a CD, Vinyl or cassette. So much creativity and hard work gone into producing a visual work of art to accompany your music, its special and I feel downloading a photo of the artworks doesn’t have the same feel. Plus, I do miss a DIY CD you get at a show, that’s how I found new bands back in my day. Haha.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
CU: The whole of the Gallows Grey Britain album. It’s a masterpiece.
JB: Mine would be Voices because it’s the best song ever
CU: What, our Voices?
CU: Cheers mate
JB:Your most welcome
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
AH: Pet peeves? Jamie saying how does it go again?
JB: Good, I try my best.
AH: Put that as my goal for 2021, to hear my pet peeve again.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
CU: My Latest Failure. Seriously it is, and my daughter singing along to my songs, obviously not the swears… yet. Makes me smile.
JB: Not shitting myself while gigging that one time.
CU: Haha, moving on…
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
CU: We are working towards the release of Failures Vol.2, very excited to get this out there. We have song cracking songs on it that we can’t wait for everyone to hear.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
CU: All of our music can be found on most major streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc. We are on Bandcamp which has music, compilation CDs and merch and Soundcloud which we have a load of demos, live tracks, session etc. a lot of early ay stuff on Soundcloud. We are also on YouTube for those who like visual material like music videos, lyric videos, live footage etc.
