Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
MC: “We’re a rather glamorous rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne”
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
MC: Midnight Chìc have been very busy bunnies for the last 3 years now. We’ve been writing and recording new material and getting it all ready for this year, it’s taken the piss a bit but we’re FINALLY there.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
MC: Ooh, here we go. Chìc have a 70’s/80’s influence, New York Dolls, Hanoi Rocks and Joan Jett etc. Non musical? Vodka, fewer calories than wine or beer and gets you drunk a hell of a lot quicker if you drink it straight. This is good for when you need to write lyrics but something is stopping them from coming out. Also it’s fun to be pissed.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
MC: Definitely to share the stage with one of our influences and go on a world tour with our future album. My main goal at the minute it’s to get the EP out at the back end of this year, which is going to happen…
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
MC: Me (Timmy Taylor) writes the songs and what are they about? Probably my breakfast.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
MC: We like to do live streams on socials so people get notified when we’re live. Me and Ollie (Lead Guitar) last time decided to plug our gig while we were building a model car in my living room, full makeup. Went down a treat.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
MC: Each to their own, personally I love a physical copy, as you get a genuine product. But all the bairns like to have the music at their finger tips. We’ll be releasing both regardless. (Physical copies are better)
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
MC: I literally thought this the other day when I was on my solid gold toilet. Probably Devil Gate Drive by Suzi Q. It’s not only a mint tune, if I wrote that I’d be Joan Jetts idol/influence, sneaky but good eh.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
MC: Auto tune, can’t stand it. Sorry, I know all these new beat makers/pop artists are using it with this new sound. It’s just all you hear on the radio and it just makes all the music sound the same, sorry not a fan, shite.
Oliver Steel, my guitarist. Always late and last one to leave the house.
Coriander, can’t stand the stuff. Tastes like soap, absolutely gross. Burn it, get rid. Has the special power to ruin every meal you cook, Eugh.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
MC: We’re currently at our proudest moment, I’ve been writing the Chìc stuff for over 3 years, setting everything up from scratch, target audience, branding and the music. We’re finally releasing and it’s a big breath of fresh air to see what all the hard work is paying off.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
MC: As it stands out next single is ready to be released, so you’ll be hearing about that soon enough, can’t tell you when though unfortunately… We’re also releasing it with Metropolis Blue record label, which is amazing. Other than that, we’ve got a load more gigs flying at us, so covid dependent, we’ll be all over the place playing shows again.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
MC: Lost Cause, our debut single is available on all streaming services and your iTunes Store. If you’ve got this far into the interview too, if you message us on Instagram @midnightchicofficial I’ll send you a physical copy for free.
