Methane – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

Methane: Methane is a thrash metal band, we play thrash metal with groove mostly influenced by old school bands like Slayer, Exodus and Pantera.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

Methane: The idea that started the project was really that Jimi and I were looking for a change from playing death metal. My brother Dylan was here visiting in Sweden, from the U.S. , so we started jamming and that was the beginning of Methane in 2012. Now after some member changes and alot of touring, we have matured in our writing together to what it is today.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences?

Methane: 40- 50 years of hardrock and metal music and a lifetime of misery drowned in alcohol and anger.

PD: What do you like to write about in your songs?

Methane: The lyrics are reality based. Some have a touch of humor most reflect the ugly face of real life, its scars and its skeletons even some anti-social politics thrown in.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

Methane: We love to play music. We love play live. So as an artist it is my goal to keep doing that as much and as long as possible.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

Methane: In my personal career ? I would have to say my first European tour with Revenant (DM Nuclear Blast) in 1990. That expierence was defining as far as my addiction to playing. With Methane, we have done alot, our U.S. and European tours are for sure great moments.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

Methane: Yeah, promoting a band is a 24/7 job. Being available and active with our friends and supporters on social media. Writing, recording , booking promting it takes someone who is a special kind of crazy to keep up with it all.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

Methane: We have an agent who takes care of alot of that stuff, sometimes we will take on a booking ourselves but its nice to have someone on the team that can take care of some of that work so I can concentrate on the music side.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

Methane: Thats how it is now, no one is standing online at a record store flipping through albums , looking for a new release. Time to embrace the future.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Methane: You know I think that all the time when I’m listening to music. “This is great, I wish I wrote that.” I guess its a huge motivation to sit and riff myself and write a better music.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

Methane: It is what it is. There are alot of sharks out there trying to rip off bands. I get emails like that all the time “we like your band, pay us a bunch of money” that is more of an insult than anything else. I think we all are changing those things. Bands are staying independent and learing to everything ourselves. In that aspect, we are the industry.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

Methane: Methane is currently finishing up a new album “Kill it with Fire”. It should be out early 2023.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

Methane: We have a Youtube channel where we have a metal vlog along with our videos.
