League of Corruption – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

LOC: We are League Of Corruption, a groove metal band from Vancouver, Canada.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

LOC: LOC has been around since 2005, on and off. This line-up has been together since 2017. I started the band back in 05, but we had a few stops and starts. I got together with this group in 2017 and we’ve been solid since then.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

LOC: Black Sabbath, Down, Corrosion Of Conformity, Led Zepplin, Lynyrd Skynrd, BLS. With a little Metallica and Pink Floyd thrown in there.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

LOC: Just to make some kick-ass music that we love to play and people love to hear!!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

LOC: Historically I wrote most of the music and all of the lyrics. But with this band, it’s more of a group effort. Even if I have a song three quarters written by the time the rest of the guys hear it, we still put it through the Band Blender and try everyone’s ideas. The newer stuff is way more collaborative. As far as the subject matter, most of it is just life experience. What we see and hear and feel. I’m also a big history buff, so I enjoy writing about that too.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

LOC: Mainly through social media these days. 15 years ago it was all about going to shows and handing out flyers and networking with other bands, which still happens, but now there’s the internet and things like Facebook. So you have instant access to the whole world.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

LOC: It’s a double edged sword. We’ve seen how much the music industry changed since the whole Napster thing. On one hand, it’s a great way to get your music and your name out there. On the other hand, if everyone is getting music for free, then nobody is buying anymore, which is where we are now. So I’m very leary of it.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

LOC: Off  the top of my head? Man I can’t pick just one. I’ll say Iron Man. Probably the most recognizable riff in metal, and it’s just a crusher!! When you hear that first bar you can’t help but go “Holy shit!”

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

LOC: Politics, technology, traffic lol.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

LOC: League Of Corruption’s new album “Something In The Water” Seriously, if I never do another damn thing in music, and this album is what I’m remembered by, then I’m good.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

LOC: Getting back in the jam room after this pandemic enforced layoff!!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

LOC: LOC’s “Something In The Water” is out June 12 via Black Doomba Records!! It’ll be on all the online stuff. Bandcamp, Spotify etc.
