John E Vistic

John E Vistic
Das Ubermensch
Deafendling Records
Release: 2 June 2023

Called a cult legend by BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson and ‘a towering figure on the UK live scene’ (The Metro), John E Vistic is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning songwriter.

Vistic’s live set is a fireball of punk rock n roll fury and psychedelic mayhem, his five-piece band setting off a stratospheric wall of sound.

As BBC’s Sam Bonham says, ‘Vistic doesn’t do things by halves…’.

Lyrically Vistic’s literary background come to the fore – Shakespeare stalks TS Eliot, Yeats and Pound, Oscar Wilde duals with Malcolm Lowry, and Martin Amis jostles Houllebecq and Harari.

The current album ’Under the Volcano’, via Deafendling Records, recorded with producer Tom Hackwell (Plainviews, Erotic Secrets of Pompeii etc.) was released in October 2022 and recorded at Bristol’s Coach House Studios.

Key live dates/support slots Mudhoney 2022 (and more forthcoming); Glastonbury 2022; Rebellion, Camp Bestival, Latitude Festivals 2023.

Plans for the future/aims for the band/project: 3 new albums in progress, forthcoming tour with Mudhoney (USA).

About the song:

Das Ubermensch is a song citing the Nietzschean problem of Eternal Recurrence in which existence recurs rather than only happening once. Vistic reworks the idea to consider why it is humans constantly need to have someone in the form of the ‘Superman’ to tell them all the answers. The song references Milan Kundera’s famous novel on the same subject ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being’ and the documentary films of George Stevens in post-war Berlin.
