Jimmy Maddon – New Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

JM: A glam rock and roller with a bit of ponce sprinkled in

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

JM: I spent my early days gigging every night from 18 – learning my craft in dingy venues with sticky carpets and beat up microphones, before I started to branch out and do tours of Asia, Australia and the UK following the release of my first album ‘Jimmy Maddon’

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

JM: Queen is my bible – I think I try to emulate them in everything!

I take a lot from bands such as T Rex, Bowie, Zeppelin and Motley Crüe as well as any new music I can come across

I’m very lucky to have good friends at radio stations who flick me over tracks (a shout out to my good friend, Rockerbob!)

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

JM: I make no secret that I plan on headlining Wembley, so you know, nothing huge

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

JM: I write them all.

They are usually based around my own experiences and heartaches but I’ll often be inspired by things I see around me, I think great beauty can be taken from painful events

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

JM: I’m very active on social media – I learnt during the pandemic that it’s a great gift and it’s an amazing way to communicate with people globally!

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

JM: Apart from my youth trying to break the family computer with Limewire, I don’t really like to get too fussed about downloading – people will do it so its more about making sure it’s clear where you can buy it too

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

JM: It has to be Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t it?

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

JM: Pubs running out of beer

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

JM: When I released ‘Love’s Symphony #1’ I was so excited as it was a chance to really branch out into the multilayered sounds with my voice and building my string and horn arrangements with my guitar

It was also recorded in brief moments between lockdowns so I’m very proud we created that in an unusual way of working

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

JM: Touring and writing up new material, almost got a 3rd album ready so I may go back into the studio and cut a few singles for later this year

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

JM: Everywhere you usually get music and Bandcamp (I recommend!)
