Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
JL-R: Independent with publishing deal
ELECTRONIC rock solo artist
I write everything play everything engineer and produce everything. Basically from albums conception to final artwork I do it. I think it’s normal and a modern DIY punk ethic. I would not want to be produced either. I don’t listen to lots of music I buy new reissue and old vinyl and enjoy them mainly some recent artists like Poppy or old stuff.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
JL-R: I’ve been in the industry for a while shall I say. On off different music companies and labels. I released NOMA in 2018 and have been recording a lot. I’m working on an album due early 2022. A working title DEIMO. I write huge synth wall songs that would sit easy in or out of film like blade runner 2024 etc or some dark wave…
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
JL-R: Myself as I am always pushing myself I know my strengths. I love arranging and sound designing. To create sound and arrange it into song form maybe. I also like That Poppy Yungblud Gary numan
I think a film a picture a documentary can be quite influencial. I’m also excited by thinking beyond standard themes.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
JL-R: Well I’d love to tour again. With a known artists of which we have been chatting to. But otherwise to arrive in countries and people know your songs sing back the words from USA to Japan to Italy etc etc.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
JL-R: I write everything. I state that with a strong voice only as I’ve noticed more recently that women who do write and play and produce and engineer seem to have to fight to get heard especially in the electronic rock side of things. We are a force coming through strong yet feminine.
I write on this current album about Imbalance in the world. The power of both dark and light energy. I don’t write about love yet if I do its written in a after fashion.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
JL-R: Jenna Leigh-Raine official fb
Umm I’ve been since 2017 a studio artist. This year I have well enough material for an hour and a half show following writing and recording last year between London France and Los Angeles.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
JL-R: Umm damned if you do damned if you don’t. Until artists get a fair share it stings. We’re at a point where something will change. There are only 3 major labels left and with streaming the top tier artists like Taylor Swift and Drake get the money made from a million artists.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
JL-R: I have a track out right now called Eden Black and the huge cruschendo in the track called Bed Of Thorns on Gary Numans last album Savage inspired me. Apart from that maybe Ghosts by Japan or Nothing I Need by Poppy and Diplo
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
JL-R: Remind me again but when I have to dismantle my studio and put it all back together and it still won’t work ha.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
JL-R: Getting acknowledged by my piers / seeing my albums in HMV and Rough Trade and Amoeba Los Angeles.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
JL-R: My next album DEIMO (working title) I’m three tracks in to recording with five tracks written. It’s sounding pretty good and very close to what I’ve been aiming for. It’s half cinematic wave then rock – Punk with a wall of synths around guitars. Due Feb 2022 yet I am working fast so we’ll see.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
JL-R: My current album KRAFT is available on Spotify and ITunes and YouTube under jenna leigh-raine topic
