Jack B. Dawson – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
JBD: Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Alternative.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
JBD: I was born in Manchester, but moved to Stockport at an early age. My upbringing in Manchester has shaped my musical development in many ways. My dad is a musician, so one of my earliest memories is being taken to ‘Gracie Land’ studios in Rochdale and watching my dad record his album.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
JBD: Alex Turner, John Cooper Clarke, Mark Manson, Jon Ronson, Ricky Gervais, Sleaford Mods and Jeff Buckley.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
JBD: To release music that resonates with people on a personal level.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
JBD: My songs are about love, loss and freedom. I draw a lot of inspiration from uncomfortable situations. Even a change of scenery such as a holiday can provoke that urge to pick up the pen and write.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
JBD: Through social media. Although, being a solo-artist means that I have to do a lot of the hard work myself when it comes to promoting myself online.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
JBD: It’s great! But there’s pros and cons to everything. I think that we have an abundance of music at our disposal these days, and we can often get carried away with skipping songs that we don’t like via our Spotify playlist. I think this defeats the whole purpose of just sitting down and enjoying the music.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
JBD: Four Out Of Five by Arctic Monkeys. I think the whole notion of an exodus to outer space is exciting, and I think Alex Turner does an amazing job of explaining this in the song.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
JBD: How small of a percentage the artist receive through streaming platforms. Musicians work hard at their craft and should be paid accordingly.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
JBD: Having my first single played on BBC Introducing Leeds and Manchester.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
JBD: I am recording a re-release of my popular song “Merry-Go-Round”. I am really excited to show the world how far I have come as a musician since my debut EP ‘Lubo’.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
JBD: ‘Mexican Scar’ single is available to buy at HMV Stockport and Manchester.
‘Lubo’ EP and other music are available from:
