Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
I: We’re a rock ‘n roll band out of Chicago, IL
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
I: Adam (drums), Drew (vocals), and James (guitar) were in a band together in college but didn’t end up recording their songs. A few years later Adam was in a band with Dave (bass). After that band broke up Dave asked Adam to play some drums on a few songs he wrote. Adam suggested bringing Drew and James to jam along. The songs from their college band started coming back up and suddenly the two separate projects were sorta mashed together. Most of Dave’s songs had rhythm guitar parts, so after recording we were searching for someone and Adam found Levi through work.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
I: James has a lot of metal influences in his style and tone. Adam leans more into punk rock stylings but can play any sort of drums. Dave has more funk influences but also played in a grunge band in college. Levi has more of a blues style of guitar play, but also really enjoys heavy music. Drew has the ability to sing in a myriad of voices. So we blend these styles together and see what happens.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
I: Continue creating songs that we enjoy playing and growing our fanbase. Looking forward to hopefully playing some shows this summer.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
I: The songs from “Cleaning House, Pt. 1” (and Pt. 2 out this summer) are a mix of songs written by Adam, Drew and James with songs written by Dave. The songs we’ve been writing since then have been almost entirely collaborative between the group. Usually someone shows the band a riff and we mess around with that for a while while Drew works out some melodies. Then if a theme starts emerging we try to nail down on. The songs are primarily about the city dwelling millennial (and Gen-Z for Levi) experience and the struggles of the modern age.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
I: Right now we just use social media and reddit for the most part. With COVID we have not played in front of a crowd yet, but we are doing our first livestream show March 25th, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFUOAp_XCpM&ab_channel=TheBunker
The video will be available on the internet forever even after the livestream.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
I: Streaming has taken over in such a way that unless you’re really committed to specific versions or remixes of songs downloading seems kind of pointless.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
I: Happy Birthday. The royalties would be insane
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
I: My pet peeve is pets. They really peeve me. Especially when they peeve in the house.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
I: Playing a sold out show in NYC with the last band we were in (Adam and Dave).
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
I: After our show on Thursday, we’re getting ready to shoot a music video and then planning to jump back into the recording studio at some point later this year….we’ve got another 10-12 songs ready to go right now.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
I: You can find our music on spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0243auNFLcRkZmvxMtij5y?si=pVfkb8UXRM6sPoIKfTjxPQ
