Ian Blurton – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
IB: Rock and Roll Song and Dance Man
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
IB: I’m 54, been playing live since I was 16. I’ve been to the crossroads.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
IB: Jimi Hendrix, Budgie, Robert Anton Wilson, The Kool-Aid Man
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
IB: I’m living the dream and my goals are writing/playing wicked jams. My goal is to have respect for those that return the favour.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
IB: I write the songs and this record is about death/mortality and getting the most out of life
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
IB: Honestly word of mouth is still a great tool so if you play a good show or put out a good record people will talk.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
IB: I think any support from fans is welcome and encouraged, the problems start when people start dipping their hands into the pot before the band has a chance to.
PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
IB: I don’t have much contact with the industry, I deal mostly with people making music (I produce records for a living) and I find that very inspiring.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
IB: Manic Depression/Jimi Hendrix because it’s such a great riff and it tackles it’s subject matter really well.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
IB: I don’t really have any. I can let almost anything ride unless there is disrespect involved.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
IB: It happens a lot as I get to work with tons of great musicians/people. That said last year I made a record with Twink from The Pink Fairies/Hawkwind/etc and it was such a great time and my current band Future Now with Anna Ruddick, Glenn Milchem and Aaron Goldstein is really a lot of fun to play in
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there
IB: We are playing The Starlight in Kitchener on the release date of Signals Through The Flames (June 7) with 2 great bands Hawkeyes and Rough Spells and I think our record release party (Sat July 20 at The Horseshoe/Toronto) will be a ripper as we will be coming in hot from a tour and demoing songs for our next record.
