Hooby and the Yabbit – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
HATY: Laugh! I know what my Dads answer to that would be …struggling and slightly battered , but am not a fish
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
HATY: Born 66 , Petrol head from early age , Piano, clarinet(spit) fantastically average schoolCareer, left, bands multi instrumentalist, tours , marriage, kids, still touring, here.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
HATY: Influences is a funny word, WHAT rather than who these days I think. Off the top of my head Relationships Politics Social injustice , people who don’t give up no matter what !
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
HATY: Aside from Boy stuff( Race a 70 s F1 car or fly a spitfire) grow old stay creative and watch my children Grow up
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
HATY: I m the song writer- Hooby is largely a solo project at the main though I have generated some Material by jamming with a couple of different line ups in 16/17 This release – I have to be a bit careful here, as the original start of this project was to write a record
That Wife and I could listen to whilst ‘entertaining’ each other if you follow myDrift ! I think two songs on here reflect that fairly strongly , but then Movie town was written as the US invaded Afghanistan., other songs are about hanging round Wakefield drinking….kind of life as I live it really, that’s what they are about.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
HATY: Just starting to do this now ! ask me in a year
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
HATY: A lot . But the bottom line is people should pay, and reasonable royalties should be passed on to the artists. Illegal ripping software should be stamped out and people should be taught to respect The creative process and its results. As they once did.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
HATY: Hmmm.bit hard to imagine writing someone else’s song but I d say J J Flash, or 5 mins by the strangers- vast amounts of energy and totally synonymous with times, whilst still sound awesome today.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
HATY: Oh my God. We’ll be here all day ! Too much Explaining in the world these days – where’s the cahones man ?!
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
HATY: A few really big shows with the Pink Floyd Trubute abroad, when you., ve been at it as long as I have you cant remember half of what you done ! I used to run workshops with young disadvantaged musicians, helping them get started you know, I think I m proudest of that. One of them was my bass player for a while!
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
HATY: Getting some gig s , here and Europe , tidying up the next release and touring EU for 3 weeks with a friend of mine.
Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
HATY: It will be musical, it will groove , it won’t sound quite like anyone else, and it ll be Cheap !
Cheers
