Guy Snowdon & The Citizens
The heart of rock ‘n’ roll is still beating thanks to Guy Snowdon & The Citizens who give that refreshing take on Rock with Anthem Guitars accompanied by sharp vocals. Their sound is a great homage to their musical Predecessors of the 70’s and 80’s when rock really ruled; it’s never more clear than in their latest single Desert that you’ll hear that obeisance Guy puts it best as what inspired him to write this song…
“Desert” is the centerpiece of the album and is the 2nd in a trilogy on the album. Guy wanted to write something special, a show stopper. His original demo took inspiration from man’s search and finding a path to one’s vision of meaning, and belonging in life. Many refer to it as the one with the scream.
Guy Snowdon & The Citizens is an original rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. It is the brainchild of Guy Snowdon (Vocals/Bass), a transplant from the home of British heavy metal, Birmingham along with Billy Brock (Keys), Zach LeFeber (Drums) and Tyler Ray (Guitar).
In October 2019, the band debuted at a John Lennon Tribute concert at the Beachland Ballroom, a Cleveland historic venue. Since then, it has performed at many Northeast Ohio live music mainstays including headlining at the Music Box Supper Club and virtual showcases in Ohio & Pennsylvania like the 48 Hour Music Fest CLE and Mindrocket Sessions.
Snowdon grew up in the Midlands of England on a healthy mix of pop, jazz, rock and world music from his parents’ and grandparents’ collections. Songs from Tears for Fears, Buddy Rich, Aztec Camera, Youssou N’Dour were early influences which led to discovering British legends, The Beatles, ELO, Queen and Oasis. At 16, Snowdon pursued music in college, studied music technology and joined a band. Even at an early age, Snowdon stunned audiences, friends and family alike with his unique rock voice that seems disembodied from his unassuming presence and has been likened to some of rock’s biggest names.
For the next five years, Snowdon honed his skills playing bass and fronting original Leicestershire band, The Fores, which enabled him to tick off an item from his bucket list – playing The Cavern Club in Liverpool. After leaving The Fores, Snowdon pursued a solo career, writing his own music and working the singer songwriter circuit in Birmingham. Snowdon has an enviable ability to pick up any instrument, play by ear and bash out a tune. He worked in a music retail shop which enabled him to not only play the best instruments in the world but also meet and learn from some of the best musicians in the world – Robert Plant, Duff McKagan, Billy Duffy, Billy Sheehan, David Ellefson, Ron Sexsmith, John Tempesta, Richie Kotzen and Joey Jordison, just to name a few.
In 2010, fate stepped in, he met his American wife and five years later, his daughter was born. In 2016, he found a new musical home in Cleveland, Ohio where he embedded himself into its vibrant music scene and began freelancing as a producer and recording artist.
But his ever-growing catalog of original songs were begging to be played by a full band. And thus, Guy Snowdon & The Citizens was born. With The Citizens, he brings a new sound that is infused with his diverse inspirations from the UK like anthemic guitars, heavy metal high notes and Brit pop beats. But he also exploits the talents of the band members he has meticulously chosen to bring his original songwriting from a single-handed, do-it-yourself recording to the live stage.
In 2020, Guy Snowdon & The Citizens released two singles, “Runaway” and “Hammer Falls” and a live recording featuring additional songs, “Desert”, “In My Stride” and “I’m Free”. In 2021, they released a full-length album called “One”. The tracks channel three decades of rock with splashes of classical, country, ethnic and jazz inspirations.
