Gravitation
Formed along the reaches of the Great Dismal Swamp, Gravitation’s sound is melodic vocals, intricate and hard-hitting guitar riffs and throbbing tempo variations with a heavy dose of today’s rock/metal grind. With a voice likened to a “pissed-off angel,” lead-singer Meghan Powell was featured in several local bands in northeastern NC in her early teens. During her high-school years she immersed herself in the local theatre and music scenes and continued her performance training at East Carolina University. With a load of natural talent, guitarist Chris Herrin began playing on a public stage when he was only fifteen years old. He was the lead guitarist for a number of local cover bands before finding his hard rock niche with Meghan and Karl. Drummer Karl Gupton, originally from Claremont, Virginia, played the Tidewater/RVA music scene for many years in bands like Last Call and J.C. Possum. Influenced by a gamut of musical genres, Gravitation formed in 2010 when the members met while working on another musical project. By a combination of hard work and extreme luck, Gravitation met legendary rock guitarist and producer John LeCompt in October 2015. In a collaborative effort with LeCompt on bass guitar, Gravitation recorded Accelerate, their first EP at Red Room Studios in April 2016.
