Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
F: We’re a 4 piece alternative rock band from York, UK – riff based guitars and catchy vocals is what we’re all about.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
F: FOXHAUNT are a 4-piece British Alt rock band from York, North Yorkshire. The band formed in 2018 and after a couple of line up changes became the Ollie, Thom, Nick, and Jamie as it is today. The bands musical style draws influence from the likes of Anberlin, Linkin Park, A Day to Remember and Don Broco. Their unique brand of entertainment fuses big riffs and catchy vocals with an energetic and lively stage show that will be sure to keep your heart racing from start to finish. With 2020 in the rear view and several critically acclaimed singles including “Open Water, Out of Control, Ghost and On My Mind” under their belt, FOXHAUNT will be one to watch during 2021/2022.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
F: Musically we are influenced by Anberlin, Don Broco, Alexisonfire and Architects. These guys have been a driving force in our scene for years so we’ve always looked up to them and still do today.
Non musical influences are drawn from life events! It’s all collectively brought into our writing and drives the feel of a song. This was especially the case during the past year to 18 months, being locked away really made us realise how much we love and need our band.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
F: To be globally recognised and to continue touring, writing and releasing music for the long term. We want FOXHAUNT to be successful and to sit in the same ballpark as our influences!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
F: We all write the music, the idea may stem from one of us – mainly Thom in terms of guitars and then myself in terms of the lyrics/melodies. But to make it FOXHAUNT needs input from us all, Nick and Jamie bring the input and influence that’s needed to make sure we create the best music possible.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
F: Well of course social media is key to everything we do nowadays. Whilst it has its drawbacks, it does allow us to connect with thousands of people everyday which is awesome. Of course our friends and family spread the word and through music videos and streaming platforms we’re able to reach a bigger audience.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
F: There are a lot of opinions flying around and of course financially its not as beneficial for us as a band. However, it does allow us to be easily accessible and anyone can listen to us nowadays. That’s all we’re bothered about right now, we just want as many people to listen to our music as possible.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
F: This changes day by day haha. At the moment I would say Crawling by Linkin Park as it sounds absolutely killer with a full band but also quite emotional when stripped back to piano and vocals. Chester Bennington is probably my biggest vocal influence so anything I listen to with him in immediately inspires me.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
F: Support bands who don’t stick around at shows to watch the other bands performing. We’re all cut from the same cloth, I fucking hate it when bands leave early to get home for the next episode of Eastenders.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
F: Our last headline show was pretty amazing, but listening back to the final mixes for our new upcoming EP was really special. It feels like we’ve created something really powerful that represents who we are and what we stand for.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
F: Whilst we’re always writing and thinking of new ideas, at the moment we’re focusing on the upcoming release plan, shooting music videos, our live show, rehearsing and getting prepared for 2022 and beyond!
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
F: Our full back catalogue is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer etc. It’s everywhere! There are some bangers available to listen to, including Ghost, Out of Control, Open Water and Trust No One.
