Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
fdm: We are a cinematic post rock band from France
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
fdm: The band is quiet old, the musicians changed lots of time, the two former members are Aurélien and Fabien the two guitarists that are in the band since the beginning about 15 years ago. Firstly we play a kind of neo metal / post rock music with a singer. The vagaries of life meant that some had to leave the group. In 2010 we decided to turn to an atmospheric post rock with two guitars and samples. Then three years ago Damien on drums and Christophe on bass came to enrich the group.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
fdm: Mostly post rock : Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you, Caspian, Russian Circles…but also bands such as Radiohead, Massive Attack, Deftones, Amenra and lots of more
Movies are a huge influence mostly old movies I like their old dialogues. What happen in our lives influence for sure our creations.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
fdm: As a band we’de like to reach more listeners to share our universe with them and also to play in great places in front of great people.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
fdm: I (Aurélien) wrote the song alone and then submit them to the band. They are a mirror of my emotions. They all tell a story but a story that could be different for each listener.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
fdm: We mostly talk about the band thru the social medias, due to the mondial pandemic unfortunately shows are not possible at the moment, we hope to be back on stage as soon as possible
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
fdm: I think downloading music online is a good way to be known by listeners from all over the world. We have no label or record company so it allow us to share however our music. Our creations are available as “name your price” so that everyone could be able to download our music even if he or she as no money. However it’s a little bit sad not to have a physical support for some creations, I personnaly like to buy vinyls from the band I like but as we are a small band we can afford to make vinyl series for our creations. Maybe we will be able to do it one day.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
fdm: I wish I had written lots of songs but if I have to choose only one I would say “the world is our” by This will destroy you because there’s everything in this song (emotions, melody, stunning intensity)
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
fdm: To lose creativity and inspiration.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
fdm: We are proud each time someone tells us that he or she was touched by our music when he or she was overwhelmed by emotions while listening.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
fdm: We work the songs we play live to be ready for the moment we could be back on stage. We also work slowly on the upcoming Ep…some thinks take time.
