Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
FOE: We are an electronic duo, that tries to push the boundaries in what electronic music should be. The blended sounds of live drums, bass and guitar, with the samples, synths and dance beats. That is us.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself?
FOE: Before the birth of Flowers of Evil, we met in college, and a band was formed. The music was completely different to this project as we mainly played punk rock music. We wanted to branch away from that to then start something that is completely different. Hence the birth of Flowers of Evil.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
FOE: Musical influences I would say: Aphex Twin, The National, The Chemical Brothers, Swans, Daft Punk. For non musical I would say probably Charles Baudlaire, he was poet who wrote a book aptly named ‘Flowers of Evil’
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
FOE: Due to the pandemic we have decided to focus more on short term goals. The next goal is that we are wanting to sell merch. T shirts that is.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
FOE: We both write. If one has an idea and we decide that this could be used, then the other will add to it, or change it. That is our philosophy, one adds an idea, the other does and we build and build the song until it is the satisfaction of both of us. Subjects range from how technology has overruled us by our own making in the name of comfort. Religion. The nihilistic approach to the pandemic.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
FOE: Through social media, either doing live streams, music videos or q&a.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
FOE: Downloading music is so common for the majority of listeners now so I guess we just have go with it. Move on forward.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
FOE: 505 – The Arctic Monkeys; we often joke about it because sometimes we have an idea and it sounds very similar to 505.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
FOE: Mainly when people leave drinks on top of amplifiers. It is just not a good idea is it.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
FOE: When we released our first single ‘Lifestream’. Flowers of Evil was an idea for a while but seeing it morph into the sound we were wanting was like no other feeling.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
FOE: We have just released our new single ‘Getting Better’ so we are just working on promoting that really. We have a livestream event at The Yard in Manchester on the 24th so we are just preparing for that.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
FOE: Our music is available on:
Spotify: Flowers of Evil
Apple Music: Flowers of Evil
Ditto Music: Flowers of Evil
Youtube: Flowers of Evil
