Fear Is Dead – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
David – Guitarist / Song writer / Martial / Origami
Ish- Musician, Metal drummer, Song writer
Skila – I’m an all around creative; writer, songwriter, performer, producer, illustrator, director, and my band mates teach me stuff here and there, so I’m learning instruments.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Skila – I won my first and only swimming race before I was born, sometime between birth and 5 years old I realized I was completely deaf in my right ear.
Grew up in Elmhurst, Queens, use to do graffiti. I learned to DJ before they used laptops. I’ve hung off the back of a bus.
I was a Hip Hop artist and music producer before really getting into Metal, because I’ve always had a thing for heavier music so it wasn’t much of a stretch.
I’ve released 2 Hip Hop projects (Skila) and 5 Metal EPs (Fear Is Dead).
David – I was born, I have conquered. Now I am here
Ish- I’ve been playing drums since I was 6 years old and was in my first band in 7th grade. I haven’t stopped since.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Skila – I’m inspired by Life. Most things expressed with passion and ambition.
Ish – Rush, Death and Fall of Troy are my top three most musical influences, and I don’t really have any outside of music.
David – Korn, Slipknot, Staind, and DMX
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Ish – My goal is world domination and to play in every country of the world.
Skila – I’m living and accomplishing them now. I’m making the music I want, that I enjoy, I have a growing business, life is good… oh yeah, world domination
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Skila – I write the lyrics, and they’re usually about something that needs to be addressed whether socially, politically, or personally
Ish- Instrument-wise, everyone writes there own parts.
David – I write all the guitars, but everyone contributes ideas and we all work to carve it out of the stone
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
Skila – Internet mostly, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and word of mouth
Ish- Thats classified
David – I….
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
Ish- It’s okay it’s easy access to having all your music, but personally i prefer physical copies.
Skila- I think that music should be provided to the public in the most available way. Yet, we still have to take the artist into account, and how they’re compensated for their craft.
So, I believe it should ultimately be left for the artist to decide.
PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
Skila – It’s a machine, it makes money
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Skila – “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby, over 50 Million copies sold. That and “Nutshell” by Alice in Chains
Ish- Happy birthday
David – Psychosocial
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
Skila – I don’t have any pets, I have allergies
Ish- I really don’t like passive aggressive petty crap, and bad parenting
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
Skila – They keep changing, but every time we finish a project, every time someone tells me how our music had an impact on their life, those are great.
Ish- I’m working on it I’ll answer this when we’re famous.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there
Skila – Our next show is on my birthday, Jan 25 at Lucky 13 Saloon, it’s also the day after we release our latest single, so it’s definitely gonna be a helluva night.
