Facelift – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

A: Surrealist band from South London

PD: Tell us a brief history of yourself.

A: We met at university halls where we originally had a drummer who we never really saw; Pitt filled in and became a permanent member shortly after, forming Facelift.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

A: We have a number of musical influences through many different genres including Radiohead, Talking Heads, The Cure, Kate Bush and Speedy Wunderground’s roster of bands.

We’re also into David Lynch’s films, Cowboy Bebop, John Cooper Clarke and Jeremy Wade’s River Monsters.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

A: World tour, opening a band restaurant and to become the band your dad always talks about

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

A: Writing is a group effort. Often the songs end up being about how it feels to have no money.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

A: Lots of word of mouth, occasionally a bit of fly-posting and on our socials which you can check out (@ukfacelift)

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

A: Online distribution and downloading music definitely has its pros and cons: accessibility and finding inspiration through all the music available but there are also concerns regarding paying artists directly and loss of physical distribution (CDs & Vinyls) culture.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

A: Call Me Maybe – cos we need to eat. ($$$$)

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

A: Technical difficulties and pay to play promoters

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

A: Recording our upcoming EP

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

A: Working on writing new material in anticipation for a new record.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

A: We have music available on Bandcamp and also can be streamed for free from the usual online services (Spotify, etc)
