Escapade
With the city providing a fresh successful breath and enjoyably unexpected twist on the British sporting landscape so the Leicester hailing ESCAPADE is proving a rousing and magnetically adventurous presence within the country’s music scene. Formed in the October of 2015, the East Midlands quartet have nurtured a sound inspired by Britpop/Psychedelic Rock but with a captivating character of its own which has grown song by song.
The beginnings of Escapade began with singer/songwriter Sam Wyatt and guitarist/songwriter Adam Bailey, the latter replying to a Facebook message placed by the former. Playing as a duo around Leicester, they subsequently realised that the acoustic project was reaching limits which a full band could transcend. So linking up with bassist Jordan Alleston and drummer Martin Wenham last year, the quartet swiftly leapt into the live arena, their debut at two charity music festivals being quickly followed by a slot at the Salford Music Festival.
Influences across the band, adding rich hues to their guitar jangling, melodically suggestive tracks, include a healthy diversity moving from the sixties to the likes of Oasis, The Stone Roses, Nirvana, Green Day, Black Sabbath and Kasabian. As acclaim and attention continues to crowd Escapade, Tom Meighan from the last of those recently sent the foursome a video message, commenting “It’s lovely what you’re doing, it’s a dog eat world my friend, and all of you stick to what you’re good at, and that’s music”
His spark was the single “Stepping Stones”. The song was the title track from their spirit and ear igniting EP, a release luring a wave of new awareness and fans the way of the band. Talking about the new encounter, a song about growing up, Adam revealed that its seeds certainly lyrically, went back to “When Sam and I were an acoustic duo, every success or achievement we had, whether it be writing a new song or performing a good gig, I would always say; “It’s all stepping stones, one step at a time” and Sam always liked that idea and approach to life.”
Expanding the idea of “doing thing in your own way and learning from your own mistakes in life and not necessarily listening to others, working on the basis that if you don’t try then you won’t succeed,” the imagination and senses encounter is also virulently catchy and rousingly dynamic.
“Stepping Stones” continued a lively and successful 2016 for Escapade, which saw the band play Liverpool’s Cavern Club that in turn leading to the founder of International Pop Overthrow Music Festival, David Bash, declaring that “I think this band could go places, and it was a pleasure to have them play at the Liverpool stop on our festival tour”.
2017 saw the band play at the prestigious Glastonbudget Festival and the release of the highly acclaimed ‘Red Sky’ a track that is opening new doors for this Leicester band, a band that is going from strength to strength.
